To wonder if these are hot flushes?

I'm nearly 36.

I keep having these 'episodes' where I feel hot and my neck, face and chest looks like I'm having some massive allergic reaction, have been scalded or have severe sunburn.

They often occur in the car. I thought it was maybe the stress of driving on a motorway. They also occur in lesson observations (teacher).

Is this what hot flushes at the start of menopause feel like?

Yep.

Mrsjayy · 01/06/2015 18:48

sorry

FlabulousChix · 01/06/2015 18:52

It could be anxiety or the menopause.

Tinkerisdead · 01/06/2015 18:56

Ooohhh ive had this this week, my face has been burning and I couldnt work it out. Im 36.

You've described exactly how i feel it each time.

Angria · 01/06/2015 18:57

Could be, your GP can do bloods to check your hormone levels. If it is an early menopause then HRT is an option.

Is the flush blotchy looking or even? Does the sensation feel like it's rising upwards from around boob level, working its way up your neck and then into your face?

When I was very nervous I used to come out in a rash on my chest, neck and face that looked like big red flat blotches. I felt very hot in those areas. I remember having what I used to call my 'interview scarf' which I'd wear so that the interviewers couldn't see the blotches appearing!

On the other hand, menopause flushes (well mine anyhow), feel like immense heat, quickly rising up from around chest area. Any redness is even (ie red cheeks). Do you get any night sweats (especially coinciding with ovulation/before period? I started with night sweats which went on for years, before the flushes started, though I guess everyone is different ).

If you only are having these flushes when you are anxious/very stressed, and at no other time, I wonder if it's more a response to that rather than peri-menopausal ones?

Lightas · 01/06/2015 19:09

It could be anxiety as I recall having a few flushes like that but it was the night sweats which I remember the most, do you have these at all. Its horrible as you wake up and the bed is soaking wet.

Silvercatowner · 01/06/2015 19:13

My face doesn't go bright red when I flush - although it feels as if it does.

I am nearly 53 and haven't had a period in over a year so I think it very likely that the hot sensations I get are associated with menopause. However, strangely for me it starts in my legs! I get really hot legs and then the hot sensation rises up and, very briefly, I feel hot all over.

Instituteofstudies · 01/06/2015 20:47

5foot5 I'm 54, and haven't had any flushiness from mid-body downwards as yet. Mine leave my hair drenched and the sweat drips down my upper back and boobs (or rather, they did, till I decided enough was enough and started HRT. ) The variations between women's symptoms is amazing.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 01/06/2015 21:44

I've started to get very hot feet so have to stick my feet out of the duvet. I get night sweats and my hair is usually soaked especially before my period. I also get migraines and palpitations just before or after my period every few months.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 01/06/2015 21:45

I'm in my early 40's.

championnibbler · 01/06/2015 22:21

urticaria?
can come on you're exercising or hot or nervous or if you drink alcohol.

Fourarmsv2 · 03/06/2015 19:27

Thanks everyone.

I do get night sweats, but had put that down to my electric blanket. I do wake up with actual wetness from sweating.

My periods have also got much heavier of late - I put this down to my low carb diet / weightloss initially. I'm still on the LC plan, but at target now (5 stone later). Periods are being investigated - gynae appt next week.

I've had masses of blood tests but I don't know if they've checked hormone levels specifically.

Will ask at gynae appt if they can order hormone tests.

I get awful ovulation symptoms - worse than ever before. Spent 12 hours in agonising pain yesterday with a stomach that had swelled like I was 6-9m pg. I used to just get a couple of hours of minor pain.

Instituteofstudies - the redness is fairly even in that it's everywhere.
