BGT should humans and animals compete in the same competition?

AIBU to think thus. The dog winner was very cute and clever. But is there a case to say humans and animals should not compete in the same competition?

It must sting a bit to be considered less talented than a dog.

Koalafications · 01/06/2015 11:28

I think the dog and its owner were both in the competition, not just the dog.

No, I don't think that there is a case for it Confused

Owllady · 01/06/2015 11:30

I agree, the dog wasn't there on its own or are you suggesting the dog had trained the woman Shock

sparechange · 01/06/2015 11:30

The talent belongs to the owner, who has trained the dog to the do that act... They are a human, competing against other humans

fortyfide · 01/06/2015 11:37

The dog was cuter. But the Village choir more talented. Of course Shirley Temple at 4 could have even beaten the dog. (And that raises a different question Young children v Adults.

Of course we do realise Simon Cowell calls the shots. I am suprised he let so many acrobatic groups in this year. That apart I thought BGT is good fun And I dont see why some tabloids were trying to rubbish it.

As others have said, the human was training the dog, so it was human vs human.

Besides its a variety show. If you start drawing the line where do you stop? Start separating singers/dancers/comedians/choirs/instrumentals?
There'd be an awful lot of categories Grin

Koalafications · 01/06/2015 11:53

Also, the magician (although a lovely guy) was 'caught out' on his tricks in both the semi final and final.

tabulahrasa · 01/06/2015 11:54

The human trained the dog though, it takes talent and a huge amount of time and effort to get a dog to reliably perform like that.

However cute the dog is - it wouldn't have won just by sitting looking cute or doing normal dog commands.

Owllady · 01/06/2015 12:02

Tabulahrasa, it was suggested on another thread the woman manipulated the vote by bringing out a 3 legged dog :o. I don't think people realise that if she wasn't there instructing him he would have been jumping up ant the whole time for a fuss.....

Soduthen116 · 01/06/2015 12:12

Koala how do you mean called out? I thought something wasn't quite right but couldn't put my finger on it. What did you see? Sorry to derail op. Wink

Loved the dog act though. At least the dogs looked happy.

Owllady · 01/06/2015 12:19

The woman looked happy too :o

I thought the magician was an arrogant creep tbh. He was all Peter Andre I love my wife

Sorry I'm most probably being a bit harsh

They're on this morning now

Owllady · 01/06/2015 12:20

See you are all naive!
As all three dogs were involved in the final!

Koalafications · 01/06/2015 12:29

Oh his wife was a bit much for me, far too emotional about her love for her husband.

Soduthen here's a link to the final and here's a link to the semi final

Owllady · 01/06/2015 12:33

He just said on this morning that you can't fool a camera
It's how magic works isn't it? It's not actually real. A bit like father Christmas and the tooth fairy

Koalafications · 01/06/2015 12:42

Yes, Owllady we all know that magic isn't real, but the whole point of being a talented magician is that the audience can't guess how the trick has been done.

Soduthen116 · 01/06/2015 12:44

Koala right yes. Thanks for the link.

I agree owl he was a bit arrogant and I think he said after the result that he was the most talented human in the stage. Sure I heard that. Personally I think the dog trainer was the more talented.

wannaBe · 01/06/2015 12:45

my ds is suggesting that given it would be lovely to be able to train a dog like that, we should get a puppy. Grin .

Tbh I think it's a bit Hmm that so many people are complaining that the dog won. I agree that the choir should have won but ultimately more people voted for the dog and that is just how it is. I do believe it is manipulated to a degree given that it is almost always the final act that wins though.

And ultimately, magic isn't real, so everyone knows the magician is using trickery. Being a bit careful what I say about him though as he's a friend of a friend and thus my fb is full of messages to/by him which have been shared etc, but all I will say is that even the posts about him tag his dw and talk about their love and specialness... Hmm

Koalafications · 01/06/2015 12:47

Oh no, wannaBe they are one of those couples, aren't they?

Soduthen yes, he did say that. I'm sure Jules (Matisse's owner) felt great after that!

Owllady · 01/06/2015 12:49

Yes it was him saying he was the most talented human being that made me Hmm
Boak that they are even like it on Facebook wannabe!
