To want a dog for myself

We already have one, a cross breed and much as I love him he's really not all that bothered about me. He's a one man dog, absolutely adores my DH and really just tolerates me even though I shower him with affection. AIBU to want another dog who hopefully would return my affection and also be company for the one we have now. My DH thinks 2 dogs would be too much.
What do you all think?

2 dogs is a lot of work. We have 2 and the older who was placid and calm became very hyper whilst the younger one was a puppy.

What if the next dog is all for your husband? My dogs are both 'mine' but they also go to Dh. they come to me for cuddles but I think they see Dh as the 'pack master' maybe, even though I walk them, play with them, clean up the shit etc.

We have two, I prefer two, they play together if ever left alone for a few hours (my dad lives next door and hears them through the wall). One of ours adores me, the other adores my DH. There is no guarantee that will happen though!

We have two dogs and one cat. DD1 is my shadow, DD2 was meant to be DH's (for his hobby not hunting!) but I'm her favourite too and the DC was meant to be anybody's other than mine but not he loves me the most would be okay but I'm not keen on cats and the DC get upset when they want a snuggle and his around my legs or jumping on my shoulder!

I want one too. A shi tzu. When we are out and I see one I practically kidnap it.

I was talking to a guy with a gorgeous one . I was practically kidnapping it. He was called little elvis. So cute!

We will one day but at the moment we are three and a half years into the ten year plan.

We go a lot of places where dogs are walked and I miss mine.

( I've never had a dog before. Cats always which is why I like shi tzus .) get one as you already have a lifestyle for a dog which sadly we don't.

Ours was about two when we had a second pup. Despite all the positive reinforcement pup was top dog and remained so until he died (a few years before older dog sadly). Funny thing was older dog really came out of his shell after the other died, we'd expected him to pine but he never did. I often wonder if he'd have been happier alone all along as the last couple of years of his life he was such a nice, affectionate dog.

We have just the one now, occasionally I think I'd like two again but this one is very clingy (snoring at the bottom of the bed as I type) and I don't think he'd cope with competition. He simply has to be touching you to relax.

Practically, two are harder work obviously, I had one who pulled and one who dawdled so frequently walked like a scarecrow being pulled along and doing the pulling. Then of course double the kennel fees. Many dog friendly places seem to ask for 'one well behaved dog' as well. Then the obvious things like vets bills.

Ultimately it is a gamble on whether older dog would be happy and indeed whether new dog would still favour your dh. I realise I'm useless here

All I can say is if this were me and knowing my dog it would be a no.

There's no guarantee. Dh says that our current dog is the same as our dearly departed one.

He says that she likes him , she's fond of the dc, but she loves me.

In a couple of years I'd like a second dog, Dh has said that should give home time to adjust to being ignored by two dogs rather than just one.

Ddog does follow him like a shadow when she wants feeding though because she's teained him to give in

Dogs, like any other creature have a personality and you can't be guaranteed to get what you want from it.
