I was warned not to google the penguin bollards. For months, I resisted. But I really REALLY wanted to know what they were. So I googled. And, as predicted, the bloody things are now EVERYWHERE on my phone and my laptop. They're watching me with their dead eyes while I try to work.

Was I being unreasonable not to listen, or was it a valid act of curiosity?

What are these? I don't know anything about it and I'm tempted to google them...

EponasWildDaughter · 14/05/2015 18:52

Same as champagne ...

RumbleMum · 14/05/2015 18:52

Champagne, DON'T GOOGLE THEM. You'll never get rid of them. I'm attaching a picture to save you making the same mistake as me ... they're the standard MN solution to a parking problem. Grin

Right. Someone needs to explain what these are to save us all the same fate!

Dead eyes...

hopelesslydevotedtoGu · 14/05/2015 18:55

Cross posted.... but none the wiser.

ChampagneBabyCakes · 14/05/2015 18:55

The big one looks evil. Glad I didn't google it - thanks.

BMW6 · 14/05/2015 18:58

Oh I remember the Penguin Bollards thread - classic parking wars. Wonderful outcome.

HTH Wink

RumbleMum · 14/05/2015 18:59

They're some kind of bollard you can buy to prevent people parking in your parking spaces. I don't actually know how they fix to the floor or anything - I didn't actually get that far. Once you've googled them they appear in the adverts on the top of MN mobile, on Facebook, down the side of the Google homepage .... everywhere.

Read the penguin bollards thread once.

So. Bloody. Boring.

There's 8 hours I'll never get back.

WhitePhantom · 14/05/2015 19:13

They follow you around because of Google AdWords remarketing.

If you clear your browser's cache they should "forget" that you ever searched for them, and leave you alone.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 14/05/2015 19:18

Haha, I remember mn making me look at some shitty house in South Carolina and the associated "fashion" label. That followed me round forever!

I do admit to googling very random things every once in a while to confuse Google. sheep shearing might be one of my interests

Zampa · 14/05/2015 20:06

I was curious too ... Not only do I now have penguins everywhere, I just wasted 30 minutes reading old threads about parking issues on IOW. Ha!

I'm afraid I've had to google- they are cute!!

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 14/05/2015 20:36

I searched for them too but never got as far as reading about them....how do you move them? I'm bamboozled. If they're heavy enough to be bollards then do you have to roll them around?

emopod · 14/05/2015 20:48

Of course, I had to google.
They're like something out of Doctor Who! Scared to sleep now.

Floggingmolly · 14/05/2015 20:52

Oh, they're lovely. I want some...

Floggingmolly · 14/05/2015 20:54

A large one costs £773 Sad

LauraMipsum · 14/05/2015 20:59

Adblock is your friend. It's free and means you can google at leisure safe in the knowledge that you will not be followed around either by dead-eyed penguins or any other annoying adverts.

My DD2 would love these. She loves everything penguin.

We are not getting them.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 14/05/2015 21:35

unlucky83 · 14/05/2015 21:41

Better than those fake children bollards...they are really freaky....
(wonders if they appear everywhere if you google them - resists urge)
