To think this will be tricky to sort out/housing benefit?

A while back l interviewed for a position of lunchtime supervisor (at my children's school)
I didn't get that position, but the headteacher explained he would like to use me in the future.
Well, he has decided (now) that he'd like to have me on hand to cover. This is great news, l need to build a CV after 10 years at home.
The tricky bit. We are in receipt of a small top up housing benefit payment.
All income must obviously be declared.
How on earth will they be able to administer this at the council?
It might on be a question of 1 hour every few months! Grin
There is no way l wouldn't declare it.
Am l unreasonable to think it will be a massive faff for the council.... I'd be asking them to adjust our paperwork on what (could be) a monthly/ 2/3 monthly basis of possibly six quid! We obviously can't do without the 'top up' otherwise l'd cancel our claim iyswim :)
Thank you...

sorry can't comment with any knowledge on this but it is one of the things that makes it difficult for people to get back in to work when they are on benefits - all the rules and regulations. I hope someone can come on here and help you with advice.

Thank you bil
I'm hoping someone has an idea about it! :)

It's fine, I'm a rent officer and lots of the tenants on my patch submit payslips monthly/weekly to be reassessed as their pay fluctuates so much.
Everytime you receive a payslip send it to HB with a covering letter explaining the dates covered and they will reassess your claim.

Feminine · 14/05/2015 17:21

Oh okay. I suppose at times of not too much work, it should be quite straight forward.
At the moment my council is 6/8 weeks behind, l feel for them.

Thank you for your help Mrs

Firstly, you need to check your earnings disregard, may be £10, £20 or £17 per week. If you earn more than that, you may lose some HB and (if you get it) Council Tax benefit. You need to send them your payslips regularly (keep copies as they may lose them, and hand them in in person at the office getting a receipt). They will then at some point reassess your HB, probably weeks in arrears. Good luck! If you are an RSL tenant remember to keep them in the loop, and if you can get a letter from the HT setting out the basis they are employing you (casual, occasional cover at £x per hour) and send it to the HB team with a covering letter saying you expect to be under the disregard and are doing this as it may leave to proper work this may help. Good luck!

Thank you missy that was really helpful.:)

If there is a disregard, l imagine l'd still inform them?
It seems like a lot of work for them, if l am sending in payslips here and there?

Yes its a lot of work for them but it keeps them in a job a lady in our office said the more the merrier the harder they had to work the less likely they would have job cuts and it's true that department has not had any cuts ?just keep them up to date and you will be fine

Feminine · 14/05/2015 22:18

Okay. That is good to hear chicken - thank you :)

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you and just to add that I scan and email my payslips to my council as I cant get there in person, and the automated email response is the equivalent of the receipt from going in that has been mentioned.

I'm also self-employed (aka a cleaner :)) and they have been very quick with any figures I've sent in.

At first I put aside the amount over my disregard that I earned so I had it banked for if they asked for it back as it were, and I've not come unstuck doing that yet although it's tough when you get paid to be disciplined to not touch it.

Oh thank you trice for explaining.
Mine will very few and far between (to start at least) but l really want to build my CV.
I am pleased l will even be able to have a person to ask for a reference! Thanks again :)
