About my mum whinging because she has a cold

My DM has always been someone who doesn't deal with minor illness very well, so this is nothing new but it is annoying.

She has a cold. I had it last week and yes I felt pretty shitty, but what can you do? It's a cold ffs, there is no cure and it has to run it's course. You have to just get on with it.

As always the fuss she is making is unreal, you'd swear she had Ebola or something. Loud exagertaed sniffles, sighs, groans, deep breaths, a false croaky voice (I know it's false because she very occasionally slips back into her normal voice) and endless whinging. "I feel lousy', "I can't breathe properly", I'd rather have anything than a cold". Really mother? You'd rather have AIDS or something like that, really?

I've never known anyone moan like it in my life, and the best thing is when my DF told someone that I'd been ill last week she had the cheek to say "she only had a cold"! Maybe I should tell her that when she's acting like she's at deaths door right this minute?

I must admit, I'm a nightmare when I'm ill, I complain to the point where I even annoy myself. I hate being ill so much it's all I can think about. I don't tell other people to snap out of it though.
Does she live near you? Can you just avoid talking to her as much as possible until she's better?

EmeraldThief · 12/05/2015 17:08

She does live near me. I just ignored the whinging today, of course I asked if she was ok (the answer was obviously no). The kitchen worktop was full packets of paracetemol, lemsip, honey, lemon and God knows what else.

Next time you have a cold, keep well away from her. Saves a lot of pain all round if you don't pass it on.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 12/05/2015 17:16

Are you my daughter?

She sounds a lot like me when I have a cold. I get on my own tits as well as everyone elses with my moaning when I'm ill.

EmeraldThief · 13/05/2015 13:39

I don't think anyone likes being ill, I know I didn't particularly enjoy it last week when I had it.

I'm staying away today as I can't tolerate the whinging. I know of too many with genuine chronic conditions, life threatening and terminal illnesses to tolerate endless whinging about having a sodding cold!

Oh, that would drive me insane. My brother is the same, only it's never a cold, but flu Hmm

EmeraldThief · 13/05/2015 13:51

Oh god yes, people who say they a flu when it's only a cold drive me absolutely insane. When you've got the flu you really know about it and realise how rdiculous saying it's flu when it's only a cold is!

I'm rarely ill so when I do get something minor like a cold, I can get really dramatic about it Blush

I know it's annoying and I make it worse by refusing to take decongestants because phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine both make me sick as a dog so I choose to put up with the sinus pain and stuffy nose to avoid vomiting.
