To think this is tiny

How big is your house?

I've just been offered a 2 bed house to rent, the lounge is approx 12 x 8, open plan to diner, 8 x 8 and the kitchen is 7x8, no seperate hall, the stairs are in the lounge, there's also a large fireplace taking up a chunk of the living room. Is this really tiny for a 2 bed house?

It sounds small - all that would fit in our lounge and we would have room to spare.

That's enough space I think (tho I grew up in a three bedroom semi with 2 parents and 4 siblings so I'm used to living in small spaces). If it's HA in a good area then you'll have safety and security, which is so much more important than size of house. I like living somewhere small - it makes me get rid of stuff rather than hoard useless crap that I'll never need.

We had a 3 bed mid terrace - 18' x 22' so not that much better considering there were 6 of us in it?

If it has loft space utilise it, without loft space for storage you'll have to be very ruthless!

We live in a small 2 bedroom house ( not sure of dimensions but sounds similar). It's not HA though, we own it. It can get depressing at times but we just have to make the best of it as moving is not an option for us. I just wish we had more space for DS. We don't have a dining area, so you're lucky to be getting that and you can put some of the dc's toys in there to keep the living room tidy. I second giving the kids the larger bedroom and you having the smaller one.

2 bed council houses are like hens teeth.

Many people in 3 bedrooms who are paying the 'bedroom tax' will be happy to exchange when you are able.

My living room is 3.5 x 2.5m.
It's tiny, but we make it work.
Our kitchen is big though, and the master bedroom so we don't feel too cramped.
