To expect Sky Installer to knock on my door before forcing gate open.

Next door have had sky installed and the cable was run along their house wall which is the boundary. To get to their wall you have to come onto my path down the side on my garage which leads to my back garden. I have a gate with a lock on to stop anyone being able to get around to the back of my house.

So, today I was in and my next door neighbour called to say that they were having sky fitted and an installer was putting the cable on their wall. I asked her if I needed to unlock the gate to allow him access, but she said he was already there and had managed to get past the gate. He left about lunchtime and I've just been out and checked the gate and it's closed but I had a fiddle with it to see if I can figure out how he got through it and he must have used force to pull it over the catch which the lock stops it doing as I can now lift the gate over it myself which I certainly couldn't do before.

So, aibu to email sky and ask why the hell their installer thinks it's OK to damage my property and what they plan on doing about it. Or would you just let it go as I now know that the gate isn't as secure as I believed.

The really annoying thing is that he could have easily knocked on the door and I would have gone out and unlocked the gate. I think because my car was in the garage he assumed there was nobody in so the householder wouldn't have known that the gate can now be opened just by lifting. (BTW I couldn't have lifted it before as once tried it before and it wouldn't budge so I know it's his doing).

YANBU. I'm amazed he thought that was acceptableShock .

I would email Sky and complain (but I may be unreasonable in doing so. I am a serial email complainer, sometimes it gets results, sometimes it doesn't but it's always worth a try.) he has damaged your property by forcing entry and trespassed onto your property without your permission.

Good luck! Smile

I would certainly be emailing Sky about this. He should have at least tried knocking on the door, not just forcing his way through a gate.

Yanbu. Cheeky bastard. Get a Padlock on your gate.

Definitely call sky and call then sooner rather than later.
