to think this was the most boring conversation ever?

A group of 7 of us got together on Saturday night for drinks and snacks at one of our houses.

For 15 minutes they talked about their cleaning schedules, how they sweep the floor three times a week, what day they do laundry etc

Now I love my friends and I am interested in their lives but I genuinely could not give a fuck about what day anyone does their vacuuming on. Especially when we're suppose to be having drinks and having fun.

Aibu? I really just wanted to scream "Oh. My. God. Are we SERIOUSLY discussing this?"

More boring than a thread about the most boring conversation?......

FuckyNell · 29/04/2015 16:10

They were probably thinking the same as you!

Mind you I love a cleaning gossip.

eggyface · 29/04/2015 16:11

depends, I am so self-obsessed if I'd spent ages working out a good cleaning rota and it was uppermost in my mind I'd probably hold forth about it to my spellbound chums. Ahem.

sunbathe · 29/04/2015 16:11

15 minutes out of a whole evening? Meh.

OjackieO · 29/04/2015 16:11

I stand corrected.

I'm not sure what's worse, the fact you found it so boring and then decided to start a thread about it or that I just read the thread Grin

UsedtobeFeckless · 29/04/2015 16:21

I'm in awe that they actually have rotas ... I just run round in a panic when people are coming, so I'd probably have been making notes! Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 29/04/2015 16:23

I've just earwigged on a conversation between two men about black v-neck jumpers. Cleaning chat is scintillating in comparison.

Flossyfloof · 29/04/2015 16:24

Why didn't you ask what they had had for their tea then?

You definitely weren't drinking enough OP, that was the real problem. Wink

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2015 16:38

Have you really been stewing about this for four days?

Agree it's a boring topic though!

KoalaDownUnder · 29/04/2015 16:39

Yep, boring as batshit.

Nayville · 29/04/2015 16:42

Your friends are so organised though! I quite admire that think I'd have been taking notes

OjackieO · 29/04/2015 16:56

Why didn't you ask what they had had for their tea then?

I did, right after I asked what they dreamed about the night before.

Have you really been stewing about this for four days?

No. But this is the first time I've been on MN since that evening.

I also wasn't aware that was time limit to post.

DP and I once had a lively and enthusiastic conversation about how successfully we had "themed" our shopping bags at the checkout at waitrose.

and then vowed never to speak of it again Blush

rembrandtsrockchick · 29/04/2015 18:23

Cleaning rota? Bloody hell!

uglyswan · 29/04/2015 18:56

Love conversations like that. So familiar and soothing. Like the taste of your own spit. But how do you "theme" a shopping bag (really want to know)?

WhiffleSqueak · 29/04/2015 19:16

the bags were themed to the rooms in the house they would be divided into upon our return home. sub divisions for the kitchen of course.

so the bathroom had your usual toiletries, feminine hygiene products, toilet rolls and bathroom cleaning products.

living room had candles, firelighters, batteries, matches and the suchlike.

there was a baby bag. wipes, baby biscotti, you get the idea...

the REAL skill came in the kitchen stuff. subdivided bags were dairy, meat, baking products, fruit, vegetables, store cupboard, booze...

we definitely should get hobbies.

stinkingbishop · 29/04/2015 19:23

DP excels at this, particularly when driving. Recent spellbinding conversation openers have included:

Do you think this stretch of the M6 has the most footbridges per mile in the country? It does seem very dense.

What's the straightest tree you've ever seen?

What actually IS the difference, technically, between a motorway and a dual carriageway?

[on leaving a carpark after a gig] Well, that was a good exit.

I sometimes just scream POO at the top of my voice in retaliation.

uglyswan · 29/04/2015 19:31

oooh, Whiffle, tell me more about the kitchen bags! Does the booze go in with the store cupboard stuff? What about washing up liquid? Does that go in the kitchen bag or with the bathroom cleaning supplies? What about bird seed?

GottaFeeling · 29/04/2015 19:31

Whiffle, isn't that normal, like you do it everytime you shop? Blush

I love a so dull it's funny conversation. Those examples from your DH Stinking could have come from me. I love wondering why about all sorts of things. I often have to google something after a long motorway trip.

I'm probably guilty of taking about cleaning too. Like any other job you have to do, it's interesting to hear how others' ideas/methods might make your life easier.

I did realise it was time I went back to work the day I tried to discuss which colour washing up liquid we should buy....

KurriKurri · 29/04/2015 19:33

It's certainly very dull, but I have been trapped in duller conversations - 'how did you get here' with some man I met at a a party - he wanted to know all the roads in detail (names and numbers) so he could tell me a much better route (all the roads, names and numbers). I was just about ready to jump out of a window when someone rescued me.

LineRunner · 29/04/2015 19:36

My OH is currently dying inside talking to his DD yet again about finding the perfect prom dress. No-one gives a shit except her, not after six bloody months of it.

I've told her to pin some chiffon to her bra, save a hundred quid.

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2015 20:09

Its a wonder they didnt get onto house prices or local schools! Religion or politics are a no no too. Linerunner, glad i had boys thus avoidong the prom dress expense!
