Postman pushing is trolley over my front lawn...

...is driving me nuts! I've noticed that the postman walks right over our grass at the front pushing his little trolley and leaving tyre tracks. We have a path about 2 foot to the right which is certainly wide enough to fit him and the trolley. He probably saves about 0.01 seconds by dragging it through the grass than he would pushing it on the nice even well maintained path. DH thinks I am absolutely bonkers to care - and to be fair, it is DH that does all the gardening and keeps the place looking nice - so maybe I am. Should I say something to the postman? I'd be worried about our mail going missing! AIBU to be bothered by this?

Yes I know there are worse problems in the world!

Just ask him to stop! Should be no problem

UncleT · 25/04/2015 09:42

As usual - TALK to him. Reasonably.

My teenaged ds does a paper round. It's a free local paper so, basically, unsolicited mail. I went with him the first time to "teach him the etiquette". and check out the area So, no walking on gardens, no clattering the letter box, make sure you close gates, don't go into a garden with small children or dogs etc. this is a postman paid to deliver mail. Definitely ask him nicely.

YANBU.

Put one of those tiny ten centimetre fences round the edge of the grass? He Can't do it then!

flora717 · 25/04/2015 10:59

Talk or if you really can't the ^^ mini fence should cover it. I have one which stops the children in the street from cycling right to the door across the lawn to knock for DDs. Doesn't stop cats though (whole different thread).

"I hope you chuck some grass seed down when you come tomorrow"

Get a sprinkler.

Topseyt · 25/04/2015 11:16

Just tell him, as nicely as you can.

I think they are under pressure to get their rounds done within a certain probably less than realistic timeframe, delivering to dozens of addresses as quickly as possible.

Consider the low fence idea, or perhaps a lockable post box on the inside of your garden gate/wall/fence might work, if that is a realistic option.

AuntyMag10 · 25/04/2015 11:43

I'm pretty sure telling him nicely would get this 'problem' sorted?

TheCunnyFunt · 25/04/2015 12:00

My local postie drives me insane with his bloody trolley. He walks (and abandons his trolley) right up the middle of the footpaths, so if you have a pushchair it's impossible to get past! So many times I've had to ask him to move it! DP has even witnessed him locking his trolley to a lamp post in the middle of a long passage so NO-ONE could get past, with or without a pushchair.

TapDancingMollusc · 25/04/2015 12:02

Our postman leaves the trolley on the pavement while he delivers to our block.

Just ask him not to do so. Communication works. :)
