To think Sainsbury's should pay up!

Sorry this will probably be long! First time posting but long time lurker.

I received an email from sainsburys on 22/03/15 telling me that If I ordered 2 separate lots of shopping (of £50 each) by the 19/04/15 that I would then get an email voucher for £25 off a third shop provided that was for a minimum of £50 too. It also said I would receive the voucher (provided I had fulfilled requirements obviously) on Thursday 23rd April. I thought this was an unusual offer and the T&C were long and complicated so I read through them several times to make sure I had understood and even wrote on the calendar yesterday to remind me to check my email as I had ordered my third shop for this evening and I assumed I would have been able to just add the e voucher and re-check out the shopping, however the email never arrived so at 8.15 this morning I phoned the care line (which costs me money as it's 0800 and we don't have a landline yet) but they kept brushing me off. The first person couldn't help me passed me to another guy who kept putting me on hold and parroting what his manager said - first he told me I hadn't spent enough and I told him I absolutely had and I always screen shot stuff like that then he insinuated I hadn't read the T&C properly and that the bit about the e voucher actually said you will receive the voucher from Thursday 23rd which I pointed out wouldn't have really made sense seeing that the third shop need to have been done by 3rd May and what if people didn't receive it in time,

He just kept apologising/mumbling I asked to speak to his manager so that I could explain thinking she would have the authority to sort it but she repeatedly insinuated I had misread the T&Cs!

I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall I told her I'm here with three kids in a semi-rural area and even the milk has run out but she was on robot mode! She said she would 'sort' it meaning she would make sure I received the voucher but when I asked if I would be able to add it to today's shop (can't usually amend things on the day) she said that no I wouldn't be able to Hmm I told her I was furious and have been regularly shopping with them for 17 years but I'm seriously considering stopping due to being defrauded and mislead and she just said yeah yeah I totally under stand (patronising) I suggested that they just knock £25 off my bill but apparently she couldn't do that, when I pressed her, she said she could arrange for the £25 to be refunded to my bank after this evenings shopping has been delivered but I will have to phone them to request it! When I pointed out I would be making another expensive call due their error she said that unfortunately we have no way of calling you back to sort the refund aaargh I give up!
So, just wondered if any of you guys had received this email and had problems with it and what I could do about mine. On principal I feel I should complain. She said I could write to head office but just feel I will get brushed off again and I've wasted nearly 2 hours out if my life already.

If you got to the end thanks for reading - feel better now I've typed that Smile

Vote with your feet. Shop elsewhere.

Sainsbury's are hideous and don't care about the 'little people', just the money they make.

RedSoloCup · 24/04/2015 10:18

Tesco do an offer a bit like this sometimes (£20 off if you do 3 x £40 shops within a certain time period). The first time the voucher was days after they said.

It wasn't a major issue for me as I don't order every week but they must have had complaints as it's been spot on every time since.

Hope you get it sorted, MIL uses sainsbos online and I don't as some of the customer services she's received has been shocking!

Firecarrier · 24/04/2015 10:36

I used to go aldi but struggle to get there now, the annoying thing is that I had done vouchers through the post for £12 off £60 but didn't use them for the three shops as I thought this would work out better for me - I told them that as well

The advice usually given on here is to get on twitter and facebook.

Firecarrier · 24/04/2015 10:38

King, I thought they were a bit more ethical than the others generally speaking but I'm rapidly going off them. I even told her the customer service I've had from tesco and asda had been better

Sadly don't do facebook and I'm not very technical but I might give twitter a go - would I look for sainsburys twitter (if they have one)

Can you not just use the voucher on next week's shop?

OohMrDarcy · 24/04/2015 10:50

Sainsburys staff on Twitter have been ace to be before - had never complained before (and they could see that from my account history) but had a delivery guy who was just awful - so many things I wanted to feed back... they rang me apologised profusely, said they would feed back to the store to ensure he got more training and gave me something like a £25 voucher to say thanks

Not really the point though, we are quite close to going over the overdraft (expensive month) and I am very much out of pocket particularly if you add up the calls and what I would have saved had I used my normal paper vouchers I got in the post. I also could have asked dh to go lidl on the way home I thought the previous two shops of over £50 each would later benefit me so I was lied to in effect.

Sorry that was to kinky Smile

Sainsburys 'customer care' are appalling.

I once ordered a chest freezer from them that was in stock, they took the money but never delivered the freezer as it suddenly went out of stock not shit sherlock, the deal was a good one.

I needed a freezer and couldn't wait, so requested an immediate same day transfer, they refused. Kept saying it would be back in stock and as at had been ordered they couldn't cancel the order!

I just kept repeating that I wanted my money, one guy eventually admitted they had no intention of ever supplying a freezer! It took a good hour, of works time Blush to sort it out but I eventually got them to refund my money, not the same day admittedly as the quickest they claimed to be able to do it was 3 working days, but it was in my account the first thing next day.

Wankers - never used them since!

LurkingHusband · 24/04/2015 11:16

one guy eventually admitted they had no intention of ever supplying a freezer!

or, in other words, criminal fraud.

Firecarrier · 24/04/2015 11:18

Max that's pretty shocking, I know all companies have slip ups but you would think in cases like this they would try to retain customers even if it cost then a few quid to sort- better for them in the long run surely.
This is the first time I've posted on a forum and it is those buggers who have driven me to it out of sheer frustration Angry
