AIBU to be worrying about how fast my "bump" is growing

"Disclaimer - I am aware I may now sound crazy".

I am nearly 12 weeks pregnant and I know it sounds stupid but I am getting really upset by my size. My stomach has expanded hugely in the last few weeks and i KNOW that's nornal in pregnancy but this cannot be totally down to this as it has been so extreme.

I was size 14 dress when I found out I was pregnant so not thin but not having this massive swollen stomach either.

The thing is that at 12 weeks I wpuld expect a low down bump and a bit of weight gain but my whole stomach has grown already and I feel uncomfortable .

This is my sixth pregnancy but even with number 5 I was in normal clothes until 16 weeks.

I am feeling really worried as I had preeclampsia with one of the dcs and every time I have child they warn me to be careful howuch weight i gain but this time it's out of control.

I have a midwife appointment on Thursday and scan AIBU to bring this up as a worry? DH thinks I'm being crazy and tells me to buy bigger clothes....

I have tried to attach a picture since this is meaningless without it!

Hopefully it works.

Weeeeell your baby is only about the size of a pea so thats not all baby :)
Have you got a hernia or damaged stomach muscles? Its probably just good old bloating (sorry) - try to stay away from fizzy drinks and bread and see what its like after a few days

Sothisishowitfeels · 21/04/2015 20:37

No I know :( I have been tracking calories and I have gained 1 pound so far. I will try avoiding bread and see if that helps.

I have damaged abs from previous pregnancies and at my recent ish 12 week scan I was asked to confirm whether it was my 12 or 20 week scan I was there for.

Sothisishowitfeels · 21/04/2015 20:49

Dr - how do you know you have damaged abs? I have wondered whether my stomach muscles have just given out Blush

Hate to say it, given it's your 6th, but could it possibly be a multiple birth?

I was also unexpectedly large for my pregnancy. This one's my second and I could barely get into my normal clothes about 2 weeks after conception. I looked obviously pregnant at 12 weeks and people are still surprised that I'm 'only' 24 weeks along now. In fact, I had someone smile at me in solidarity last weekend and say, 'Nearly there,' and was very embarrassed when I told her I still had another 4 months to go. The midwife is not concerned at all so I content myself with the fact that everyone's different and I'm obviously destined to look obviously pregnant all the time. Wish I could see my toes though...

Congrats on your pregnancy. Enjoy it!

Oldnamenomore · 21/04/2015 21:00

Imperial- I dont have a "twins" feeling and I have no twins in my family . I am 31 not sure if that's old enough to increase the risk of twins!.
I didn't know more children made twins more likely but I feel like it's just one. If i am wrong I will update you on Thursday Grin

Text - could be water retention I have been really sick this time so perhaps that could have upset my poor body a bit.

I just measured my waist and I have gained 4 inches in 4 weeks.

If it's water retention does that mean at some point I will have a giant wee and deflate Shock

VixxFace · 21/04/2015 21:01

At 12 weeks its not the size of a pea

londonrach · 21/04/2015 21:03

Sothisishowitfeels · 21/04/2015 21:05

I am fairly certain of the date as it was only once we had sex Grin if it is any other date I think Dh will be starting to ask questions!

How long since your previous pregnancy? I'd guess your an muscles are just relaxed which is fine but after this birth Id recommend post-natal Pilates as it's important to strengthen your abs to support your back, especially with six kids to lift and carry. I imagine it'll be hard to find time for yourself with a big family but looking after your own post-natal health is very very important.

seaoflove · 21/04/2015 21:06

I had a very noticeable bump by 12 weeks and it's only my second pregnancy. Mind you, my stomach muscles are shot, so that doesn't help.

You just have to make peace with whatever size you end up being. I've been big all the way through (but I'm short, and short of torso, so the only way is OUT) and was measuring 38cm at 34 weeks. And the baby isn't large either!

Parkend · 21/04/2015 21:07

Abdominal muscle separation is possible, especially after multiple pregnancies. can you feel a gap in the midline of your abdomen where it feels softer?

momieplum · 21/04/2015 21:10

It might be to do with gestational diabetes? Ask the midwife to check it out but NB it was completely missed with me, by my midwife and by the maternity walk-in department who were very busy, even though they were checking urine, until I was 37 weeks and my liver was giving way, so double check with your gp or walk in too. I went from 10.5 stone dress size 10/12 to 15 stone and told them I wasn't massively overdoing the cakes, and they still missed it.

Sothisishowitfeels · 21/04/2015 21:32

Museum - my youngest is 3.5 I will have a look into that :)

Parkend my stomach feels the same all the way across I can't feel any gaps or softer bits at all unless they are too well padded!

I'm confused, if you have only gained 1lb so far, are you sure your current pregnancy body is that different to your pre-pregnancy body? 1lb isn't a lot!

worksallhours · 21/04/2015 22:12

I would get the sonographer to check you for uterine fibroids at your scan. If they don't know you have one, they don't always look for them or register them at your 12 week scan.

You are only 31, which is a bit on the young side for fibroids in European women (average age is 35), but a fibroid could be the reason why your stomach seems big for gestational age.

I am currently 14 weeks and look around 26 weeks because I have a fibroid the size of a 12 week pregnancy. I also have not put on a lot of weight either because ... of course, it is a volume issue rather than a weight issue, iyswim, and I already had the weight of the fibroid before I conceived.

SideOrderofChips · 21/04/2015 22:20

Are you 100% sure you are 12 weeks?

I ask this because i went for my 12 week scan recently and im actually 16 weeks...

Coumarin · 21/04/2015 23:22

31 isn't that young for fibroids after 5 pregnancies.

Hate to say it but was your stomach quite big before you got pregnant but you didn't pay that much attention? You're just noticing it now?
