Really not sure if I'm being unreasonable or not.
My line manager has said she wants me to take on diary management for a senior leader at work. This is because the women currently doing the role no longer wants it and is going back to her former role (after only 3 weeks).
I don't want to do this as the role is two grades lower (although I would stay on my current pay) and its boring (to me). The senior manager has a reputation for being horrible to work for and although I've been assured that the job will be re advertised, I can't see a replacement being found for at least 3 months.
I work in the civil service and recruitment is very slow!
I'm going to meet with my line manager on Monday as she isn't in today but she has already told the senior manager I will do it!
Would I be unreasonable to refuse and potentially cause a rift with my boss (and her boss) and carry on in my current role?

Refuse. She shouldn't have made the commitment and she's just trying to save time and effort by taking a cheeky way out. there doesn't seem to be any obligation for you to do this, so don't. You will be making a rod for your own back IMHO.
