I've just seen a van with the company name "OCD cleaning" on the side and the slogan "obsession makes perfection". The OCD stood for ovens, carpets and something else, didn't catch it all.

I'm pretty hard to offend but I did think it was a badly thought out name/slogan.

Aibu?

It's bound to offend some people, understandably as OCD can be incredibly debilitating.

But it's a name that will attract attention and will give a good impression of a cleaning company to people who don't know anything about OCD, so I can understand why they have used it.

Agree, people will always be offended by something!
Some people may be bothered, others won't.
I have severe ocd.
I'm not in the least but bothered.
Think it's very catchy.

ActingBusy · 08/04/2015 14:40

I'm not offended at all and it's definitely a cleaning company name that I'd remember.

SouthernComforts · 08/04/2015 14:42

I'm not one of the PO I promise Grin

And you're right about it being catchy - I don't usually remember vans I drive past.

It can only bother you if you let it. It IS a name people will remember and if people are offended they won't use that company - so they would be the losers there.

"I'm pretty hard to offend"

Urm are you sure about that OP???

I assume you don't actually suffer from OCD?

The fact is the use of the term OCD has made it's way into the everyday lexicon (for example I see a lot of 'I am bit OCD about cleanliness' on here all the time and hear it in RL a lot as well.)

I personally think it's a really memorable company name so job done!!

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 08/04/2015 15:01

are you upset because it upsets you, or you think it might upset someone else?

ElsieMc · 08/04/2015 15:06

It is a little insensitive, but hardly deeply offensive. I once hired a plumber whose van bore the slogan "Seek a Leek" and I wasn't offended for vegetables.

badtime · 08/04/2015 15:07

I have OCD, and the only thing that actually bothers me about that is that it reinforces the popular connection between OCD and cleaning.

(Only some people with OCD clean a lot. Some avoid cleaning (because, for example, they would have to touch 'dirty' or 'contaminated' things), and some people with OCD hoard stuff. Still others have obsessions or compulsions which have nothing at all to do with any sort of cleaning.)

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/04/2015 15:12

I know someone with a leaning business called OCD, I don't like it much I think it makes light of what can be a life destroying condition, I do have a close friend that has really suffered with it though so maybe it's one of those things you have to experience or be close to before it can offend you.

What is worse though, a million times worse in my opinion is 'Dial a hubby' for diy jobs, that offends me way more. Wink

guest2013 · 08/04/2015 15:27

I also know a company called OCD cleaning and thought the same thing OP.

PeppermintCrayon · 08/04/2015 16:10

You could always report them for false advertising if it turns out their staff don't all actually have OCD.

I have OCD and think this is kind of Hmm
