To boast about ds's book review

Not so long ago we struggled to get ds off the Xbox & reading. His reading age was very high, but if it wasn't captain underpants he wasn't interested.

However I signed him up to do childrens book reviews through lovereading4kids.com & cajoled him along. He found it difficult sometimes but he was sent preview copies of various books & had to send in reviews.

Last year he was chosen to review the entire Alex Rider series in preparation for a new edition being published this year. He didn't want to read them at first but I persuaded him to try & he loved them , he was hooked.

Yesterday he was sent a package from the publishes with a copy of one ofvthe new editions. A quote from one of his reviews has been printed inside the back cover. This book is on sale all over the UK

I'm so proud of him as he doesn't find writing easy!

So I'm having a little boast.

Undeuxtwatcinq · 05/04/2015 20:15

Oops, pushed too soon. I'd be really proud of mine too.

Well done your DS! And well done you too for finding a way to interest him in reading Star

legolegolego · 05/04/2015 20:20

Ah that's lovely!

CombineBananaFister · 05/04/2015 20:20

Wow, that's absolutely fantastic bless him. Was about to get all knicker-twisty when I was first reading your post because there seemed to be a lot of 'i pushed him to do this' but he did enjoy it so your instincts were right, you weren't making him do something he disliked he just needed an x-box intervention Grin
I'd tell bloody everyone, super achievement.

splodgeses · 05/04/2015 20:23

Smile Be proud to be proud!
Well done BalletGirlMum's ds.

TruJay · 05/04/2015 20:24

That's amazing I too would be so proud. Well done to your DS.
I love to read and I think it is such an amazing hobby to have. My DS is just starting to read independently and I'm hoping he continues to do so and enjoys it as much as I did as a child.

BlackDaisies · 05/04/2015 20:24

Wow, that deserves a BIG boast. What an achievement Smile Well done to you and to your ds.

LynetteScavo · 05/04/2015 20:27

That's brilliant! Grin

Justusemyname · 05/04/2015 20:29

BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Eigg · 05/04/2015 20:34

Wonderful, what an achievement for your DS.

balletgirlmum · 05/04/2015 20:48

Aw thank you.

His face lit up when he got the letter & copy of the book. They only put his first name, not surname & I'm not going to say exactly which one of the series it is or I'll out myself.

He still plays on the Xbox. But we have a rule that it has to be switched off an hour before bedtime & he has to do some reading.

That's absolutely wonderful! He must be so talented, to write a review that catches the eye of the publishers and impresses them so much that they print it. Well done to him (and to you for pushing him to express his talent).

ClumsyNinja · 05/04/2015 21:05

Great boast. Easter Grin

Plus, thank you for sharing the link. I struggle to find entertaining new reading materials for my DS in our local library.

JustHavinABreak · 05/04/2015 21:06

Well done to your DS ? And we'll done to you for being so firm and bringing about such a great result. You're an inspiration!

ChampagneBabyCakes · 05/04/2015 21:08

Amazing - he'll be proud of it for years! I bet it keeps him reading and reviewing too. Well done Mum!
