Hi have named changed for this.
Sorry its long and it may be tmi or triggering for some

Anyone had an ectopic can describe the pain to me ?

Im so worried im approx 5 weeks pregnant was at the EPC on wed and they suspect an ectopic i had lower right side abdominal pain low down in the pelvis (not cramping its a sharp pain) and brown spotting. They did an internal scan in which they couldnt see anything in the uterus but they also couldnt see anything in the tube (she did say it could still be too early to see anything they dont usually see anything if hcg is below 1000)
So they did my hcg levels and they were 311 which didnt tell them much as this could be normal for around where i should be and showed an early pregnancy that they wouldnt see on a scan.
The plan was made to send me home and then i have to go back tomorrow and they will re do the hcg levels and if they have doubled that may indicate a normal early pregnancy, if they have risen but not by a lot that would indicate ectopic. She also did an internal examination in which i practically jumped off the bed when she touched the right side with the pain.

Since then ive bled some fresh blood not extremely heavily but a fair bit and the pain is still there however i dont think its too severe its there when im sitting in certain positions, standing or walking and kinda goes down into my leg.

Im still really concerned about this being an ectopic and just wanted to hear others experiences really to maybe prepare me for tomorrow

Im certain that this isnt going to turn out to be a normal healthy pregnancy atm what im hoping for is that the hcg levels lower and indicate this is a miscarriage as much as im devastated about that

No advice as I was sent in to check for ectopic at about 10 weeks, but it all turned out fine. Just didn't want to read and run. Really hope everything turns out fine for you Flowers

Sorry to say but it sounds very like my ectopic 12 years ago Sad

I really hope it's good news for you though. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I had pain in a similar place when I miscarried last year and doctors were concerned about ectopic. It wasn't fortunately but sadly I did miscarry at home at 8 weeks. It was diagnosed (with a scan after miscarriage) as a "pregnancy of unknown location" Somewhere on Mumsnet there is a really good thread about how to get through a miscarriage if it happens at home which I wish I had read before it happened to me. I hope you get through the night and back to hospital tomorrow without it getting worse.

It's horrible not knowing. I've just recently had an ectopic pregnancy at 7 weeks. They re did my bloods and it had shown a slow rise on day 3 and the same on day 5. Since my HCG level was low they advised methotrexate injection which I had that day and 2 weeks later my levels have dropped to not pregnant. After the injection they re did my bloods on day 4 & 7. I started bleeding heavy on day 5 and continued for around a week. Very similar to a previous miscarriage.

What I would say is though I had little pain and was well. The epu said to phone straight away if I started to get serious pain and gave me an emergency number so if things get bad phone straight away.

I hope you get a good result tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through, I had an EP and it's not knowing that is so very hard. I have everything crossed for you that it's a normal pregnancy and that everything goes ok for you.

My only advice would be to keep going back for hcg checks and keep asking what the numbers are and, more importantly, what they mean.

Sadly, you may have another couple of weeks of not knowing exactly what is happening but don't be afraid to speak up, ask for a scan or speak to someone else if you're not getting the answers that you need.

There is also the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust website that has lots of information and support.

Finally, read up on the symptoms of EP. Shoulder-tip pain is a 'classic' symptom (and believe me, once you've had it you know what it is). There are other symptoms though and it's worth being aware.

This link is the EPT website and worth reading.

Op, I had an ectopic pregnancy about 9 years ago, and symptoms were similar to what you describe. In my case, I had brown spotting for 8 weeks before the pain began. In addition to the one sided pain, I had intense pain when I opened my bowels, which was what led to diagnosis. By that time, the scan did show a "mass" on the tube, but it resolved itself.

Brown 'prune juice' spotting was first sign of mine followed by a dull ache. So sorry - it was weird feeling like I had been saved and bereaved in the same moment xx

I had an ectopic pregnancy many years ago at 12 weeks. It started like yours but in time the pain was so intense I was crawling around the floor. I was sent to the hospital and lucky for me as the tube burst while I was there and was rushed to theatre.

Aside from the trauma of it all, I was in an abusive relationship. He had gone AWOL and I remember looking out the window from Guys Hospital London and feeling I had never known how alone I really was.

Later I got angry and wanted to go to the hospital and insist they give me the baby back!

I sincerely hope you will be OK. X

Awful pain in my shoulder on the same side as the ectopic, no stomach pains at all and no pregnancy seen on any scans. I had bright red bleeding and went to the hospital who diagnosed an ectopic pregnancy having previously said it was a miscarriage. I can't remember my levels as it was 3 years ago now, sorry.
I hope that you get some answers and soon.
