To think Gumtree is full of freaks?

I have never used Gumtree before so perhaps I have been unlucky, but we have advertised our old banger of a car for £200 on it and the responses are just plain weird.

One person offered me £100, when I excepted he asked what my lowest price was?? I said £100 no lower, he replied I will give you £80 now as my first offer was 2 weeks ago?? My car wasn't even for sale then! I ignored the text he sent me at 12.45am! saying he would give me £90 and collect today (luckily this didn't wake me). Basically ignored him then had some missed calls from his number and went on to text when can I pick up the car,can I have your address - like fuck you can I thought.
I told him I sold the car which he then questioned and signed off with watever.

I have been offered a Nikon camera for the car? Also had an offer from a lady who clearly did not read the advert at all and repeatedly emailed me stupid questions.
WTF is wrong with these people? Or have I just been unlucky?!

I have no idea.... Every ad I contact I never get an effing reply. I've given up trying to buy on there!

heatseeker14 · 02/04/2015 17:56

Strange site will avoid in future..

This is why I'd rather give stuff away tbh (obv not something like a car but YSWIM)

Quitelikely · 02/04/2015 18:12

I have found it a great site!

If you're selling a car that cheap you are going to get some young, immature boys I suppose.

UghReally · 02/04/2015 18:16

YANBU!
Slightly different but saw someone offering "FREE accommodation and living costs covered" For "Female only under 30's" yeahhh... okay mate

letscookbreakfast · 02/04/2015 18:20

I've been selling on there a while and even though I've sold everything I have had some piss takes in regards to offers and I just ignore them.

heatseeker14 · 02/04/2015 18:22

Yes it could be the price of the car, that has enticed the weirdos out of their caves to play. That advert ughreally is bizarre.

Oh yes!

I advertised my daughter's Jumperoo on there and was bombarded with bizzare messages.

"What's the max weight? I'm about 10 stone would it take my weight?"
Erm, no.
"How much do you weigh then? Could you try it? How do you know it would break if you haven't tried it"
"What about if I only put one leg in and one hand on the wall? Surely it wouldn't break with just one leg in?"
Hmm

Beatrixemerald · 02/04/2015 20:08

We have sold loads on there and found it brilliant we have managed to shift all manner of rubbish (a 20 yr old avocado toilet we ripped put for example for £20) but if you ever put a mobile on there your phone will ring off the hook non stop - be warned

TheChandler · 02/04/2015 20:20

I've tried advertising accommodation for rent on there. I always say I'm the owner, and to give a brief introduction to themselves in the advert. 4 out of 5 responses say something like "Can I view this property asap, please give me the address" or similar.

I've had someone who asked me if I would be alone in the property when he viewed (!), someone who asked me to put locks on all the room doors, and several men who claim that they had to move either that evening, next day or within 2 or 3 days because they had been thrown out by their wife/girlfriend/partner. I had one who put the phone down on me when I told him he would need to provide a reference and sign a lease.

Its scary how many odd people are out there!

987flowers · 02/04/2015 20:22

I've been lucky then! I've sold 2 things to normal people!

PHANTOMnamechanger · 02/04/2015 20:29

I don't do gumtree but I'm on 2 local fb selling groups, and a free to a good home group - the rudenss you get is unbelievable.

You post something eg free sofa, and get a "I'll have it, can you deliver" reply!

Or a ton of stupid Qs, that were covered by the original advert! or people not showing up (no explanation or apology given) when you have gone out of your way and changed plans to accommodate their choice of pick up time.

Fcukfifa · 02/04/2015 20:38

Nigella, my friend advertised a door bouncer and had a weirdo asking about the weight limits etc. Then asked of she could try it out.

Very strange!

WaitingForMe · 02/04/2015 21:55

My DH sells our stuff because apparently I'd implode at the stupidity. I went along with it because it made my life easier but clearly he's doing me a favour Shock

heatseeker14 · 02/04/2015 22:00

The jumperoo/ door bouncer has trumped me Shock pure weirdness.
Thechandler that is very creepy being asked 'are you going to be alone' when they want to view a property. Based on the messages I have received over the last couple of the days, the last thing I would want is to encounter any of them alone.

Yes, you realise how many strange people there are in the world when you try selling things on Gumtree/FB and the like. I clearly live a very sheltered life!

TheEggityOddity · 02/04/2015 22:26

If you think those are bad, you obviously didn't hear what happened in America recently. Look away now if horrific news stories about babies are too much.

Horrible

bumbleymummy · 02/04/2015 22:28

:(

chickenfuckingpox · 02/04/2015 22:34

i put a car up for sale for £1200 and got loads of people telling me they would give me £600 for it as i clearly wanted to shift in Hmm
