About tooth ache?

AIBU to think that tooth ache is one of the worst pains ever? I've given birth, broken bones, had pancreatitis and now have a dental abscess for the first time. I've heard people say tooth ache is shit and thought "yeah yeah" but this is torture.

I'm drugged up to the eye balls on tramadol, codeine, paracetamol, ibuprofen and still, I want to jump off a very tall building. I've managed to get about an hour of relief but I know it will wear off soon. Aaarrgh!

Toothache and earache - the worst pains. Aches are worse that sharp pains - aches are bloody awful. IMO.

BigcatLittlecat · 01/04/2015 22:53

You have my sympathies. It's a horrific pain! I never understood the saying crawling the walls with pain until I had an abscess! I've had 3 now and twice ended up in a+e on a drip! Every little pain in my mouth now there's always s little moment of panic that it's another one!

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 01/04/2015 22:54

YANBU. My wisdom teeth have started hurting again and as my dentist still refuses to do anything about them and paracetamol doesn't work, I just have to put up with the pain.

Whenever I have tooth ache I'm always half tempted to rip the bloody things out myself but not really.

Orajel really worked when I hadn't slept for 3 days get the 20% behind the counter stuff though. It is horrible im still waiting to see if my emergency filling worked.

Fluffyears · 01/04/2015 23:29

Toads I just told my dentist I wanted to be referred for surgery andthey whipped my teeth out. It was hell for a few days but no more teeth no more pain and at almost three week point it's all helping up well.

WayfaringStranger · 03/04/2015 12:14

I would think things should be starting to improve.
Poor you Sad

MintPink · 03/04/2015 19:01

I've got the most horrendous toothache too :( You have my sympathies. I started antibiotics yesterday and managed my first meal and night of sleep in 3 days! I wasn't registered with my local dentist so had to go to the dental part of the hospital for the antibiotics, and then registered and booked an appointment at my local dentist. It's not until mid May! :( Hope it gets better for you soon.

windchime · 03/04/2015 19:24

OP, you need antibiotics. Go to A&E or GP out of hours RIGHT NOW.

alwaysstaytoolong · 03/04/2015 19:28

I had a dry socket infection and an abcess at the same time which led me to miss Robert Plant in concert which I'd been looking forward to for months!.

Only unspeakable pain which made me want to take a hammer to my own face would have made me miss Robert Plant!

OK, so I have a tooth that is in a mess, falling to bits you can see right inside it - I am looking for a new NHS dentist saw one yesterday who was crap. I am just starting to get twinges in the jaw and ear (tooth has been like this for months). So now I have to look for a new dentist and I am hoping I can hold out. How likely is that, and does anyone have any advice to get an extraction or a crown? (yes will need root canal too) - very scared and worried about money Sad

Mrsmorton · 03/04/2015 19:50

Confused which bits of the thread have you actually read..?

ThatBloodyWoman · 03/04/2015 20:02

I understand the money bit Burning.

Extraction and root canal are in the band of treatment thats about £50.
A crown is about £200.

The top band treatment isn't something I could find the money for just like that.

ARoomWithoutAView · 03/04/2015 20:19

YABU. definitely.
Toothache is bad, yes, but doesn't trump worse things.

In my experience, being tortured is much worse
That is why it is used the way it is now, and in the past

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 03/04/2015 21:43
Hmm
splodgeses · 03/04/2015 22:06

Get some clove oil and cotton buds tomorrow, I swear by it.

I had a trauma to a front tooth that caused the nerve to die slowly. It kicked up a major fuss on its way out, clove oil was the only thing that stopped the torture.

NobodyLivesHere · 04/04/2015 06:29

I had a tooth extracted and my gum sewed up by a butcher dentist who left a fucking huge piece of the tooth in my gum. Three weeks of agony, drugs and crying and I'm still traumatised by it. I've hE 3 children with no pain relief, numerous surgeries, chemotherapy and broken both legs at the same time and none of those things were as hellish.
