TCM can be very effective used properly. Issue here is they're not single ingredient treatments so it's difficult to get them "passed" by the european standards whatever, and into mainstream usage.
So it's left as unregulated "alternative" treatments, which of course means it's pure luck as to whether you get some charlatan or someone who really knows their stuff. Herbal medicine can be very dangerous in the wrong hands, effective in the right ones (foxglove/digitalis, willow/aspirin, mould/antibiotics etc)...
