To not understand if the DVLA are aware or not?

Hi,
So I passed my test yesterday and drove through the day after, insurance were updated I am a full holder now rather than provisional.
We have lived at this address for 8 months and my husband updated his licence as soon as we moved in.
On the v5 when he got the car a few years back it asked for his driver number so he was under the impression they're crossed referenced for any speeding tickets etc?
He got a fine for driving through a bus lane a few months after we lived here so that was why he thought it, but after looking into it I'm now really worried that anything for me will go to te registered keeper on the v5 which is out previous address :(
He is determined I am wrong, that they are linked and that's how the ticket for the bus lane came through but various websites are giving me all different information and now I'm really confused.
Can anyone shed some light?

You need to change all documents to current address. You legally have to update your v5 with your current address. Any fines issued to that car will go to the address on the v5.

Perfectlypurple · 21/03/2015 17:50

You can be fined by DVLA for not updating driving licence, v5 with correct details.

eurochick · 21/03/2015 17:52

You need to update the V5. It tells you on it how. There can be substantial fines for not doing so.

Sycamoretrees · 21/03/2015 17:53

Did you have a postal redirect for your last property? That might be how the fine ended up at your new house without the V5 address being changed.

Lottie10000 · 21/03/2015 17:53

Then I don't understand how the bus lane fine found our way to him a month after we moved in as the v5 is in our previous address??
He said when he did the original v5 it asked for his driver number so he presumed that's how they found him / would find us if there were any fines etc.
now very worried if anything happened yesterday how would I ever find out??
Have got him filling it out as I'm typing this but that doesn't undo yesterday / today

You would find out. The letter/fine may well be returned as not at this address. The v5 will get changed fairly quickly. Don't panic, but read the bit on the v5 and licence about what your legal obligations are.

LittleMiss77 · 21/03/2015 18:14

its really easy to change the address on your V5. i forgot when we moved and then had a freak out when i didnt get a tax reminder.

get it done sooner rather than later though

Andrewofgg · 21/03/2015 18:14

Bus lanes don't get points and DVLA don't hear about it. But keep your address updated.

Lottie10000 · 21/03/2015 18:26

But the tax reminder also came here last month! That's why it's confusing, the only thing I can think of it's there's a part which says enter driving licencse number ( not required by law ) and he did that so maybe that's how they linked the 2.
The bus lane must have contacted DVLA or how would they have known our address to issue the fine??

OP posts:
Andrewofgg · 21/03/2015 18:29

Sorry, yes, DVLA provide the local authority with the keeper's address but are not involved after that.

Andrewofgg · 21/03/2015 18:29

Hit ENTER too soon.

DVLA have no record of bus lane offences which are not their concern.

Lottie10000 · 21/03/2015 18:46

Oh yes I know that, I'm just confused to how we received the bus lane fine and the tax reminder when the v5 is still registered to our old address?
I hope it's because my husband entered his licence number in the optional box so therefore if I had got a ticket of any sort ( being a worrier and a new driver! ) it would come to my address now not our previous?!

We will send it off first thing tomorrow anyway but I would hate to think anything was on route to our old address :-(

OP posts:
Sycamoretrees · 21/03/2015 19:45

Do you have reason to think you might have got a ticket?

Lottie10000 · 21/03/2015 20:14

No not at all, I'm just a new driver and worried by all the speeding cameras that are everywhere etc!
I don't like the thought of something going to an old address and me having absolutely no knowledge but as I said the tax reminder along with my hubby's bus lane fault did come here although I have no idea why if apparently it all goes on the address on the V5! Will send first thing monday, I just wonder what would happen if they were going to the wrong address now we update them would they re send or deemed as our fault for not updating straight away? The licence was done on the day we moved in by the way as that's all hubby thought had to be done!

Try not to worry and enjoy your new found driving freedom. (I know that's easier said than done!). There's a very high chance that no harm has been done by the very small clerical oversight, and you're doing everything you can to rectify it.

Lottie10000 · 22/03/2015 08:56

Yes its been sent this morning I'm just a born worrier!

ratspeaker · 22/03/2015 10:00

If you are worried about the speed cameras everywhere stick to the posted speed limits and you will be ok.

Lottie10000 · 22/03/2015 12:14

lol yes of course!
I just would hate to be prosecuted like I've heard you can be if any sort of fine when to a previous address!
What about the time lapse when you move though? As it says it can take a month to come back to you so what happens if, for instance something does happen in that month before you sent it in etc?

OP posts:
kinkyfuckery · 22/03/2015 12:18

Did you get caught by a speed camera? Were you speeding? Just don't break the rules and you won't get fined!!

Lottie10000 · 22/03/2015 13:06

No I don't think so,
Our sat nav alerts you of cameras and as it started beeping I was doing 55, as was in a 60 I thought but then I saw on the satnav I was in a 40 so I breaked hard and was down to about 30 as I went passed it I think
It was daylight though so I wouldn't have seen the flash would I.
I went back and the 40 sign is well behind a massive tree so hard to see and it's all one straight country lane so I wasn't expecting a change!

MillionToOneChances · 22/03/2015 14:33

I thought there was a £1000 fine for not changing your address details...?

Lottie10000 · 22/03/2015 16:09

On the v5 or driving license?
On the v5 it says it's your responsibility to keep address updated but no time frame / fine mentioned.
From my research where you can enter the driver number ( optional ) if any fines etc were to happen they send a letter to that address as assume you're the driver hence why my hubby received the one for the bus lane offence.
But have sent it off now anyway :)
