im not sure if i am. My mum picks my daughter up twice a week from school. she has become friendly with another mum which has annoyed. possibly irrationally but i consider school mums to be my friends and would prefer her to find her own friends. anyway i have just found out she has told this friend about a rather intimate health problem of mine and im furious!!! i havent shared this with anyone. because my mum tells everyone abouther health problems she thinks im being. ridiculous!!! im so pissed off.

You're unreasonable about who your mum can be friends with but not unreasonable about her sharing private info.

Have you spoken to her? What did she say?

TheMoa · 18/03/2015 09:40

I'd be mildly annoyed about the over-sharing of your medical info, but not about your mother making her own friends.

She has found her own friends, at the school gate. You don't have some weird claim over them Confused

firefly78 · 18/03/2015 09:41

i said it was my private info and i would prefer it if she didnt share with people. she said i was being defensive and ridiculous.

yes im over the whole her being friends with this mum. it mildly annoyed me to start with and i wasn't sure why. i think its probably because i knew something like this would happen!!

Wow! I'd be livid! What was your mum thinking? That's totally unacceptable. No wonder you feel upset. Personally I wouldn't mind my mum making friends like this but the over sharing is really not on.

molyholy · 18/03/2015 09:47

YABU for being annoyed at your mum for making friends. YANBU for being pissed off that she shared intimate information.

WilsonWilsonWoman · 18/03/2015 09:52

I'd stop confiding in my mum if she thought it was ok to do that. How embarrassing and being told you're being silly about being upset is one of the most frustrating things ever. Shock

firefly78 · 18/03/2015 09:58

the health condition is linked to her. hard to explain but its a screening procedure i have due to illness my mums had. but generally i don't tell my mum stuff. she treats me like a small child and would talk to other people about me like im about 3. hence why i didnt like making friends with my friends!!

YABU about feeling annoyed she's made friends with one of them but you are definitely NOT BU about her telling them about the health problem!!!!

kissmethere · 18/03/2015 10:43

Yabu re who your mum is friends with. Is she really "friends" with them or just passing the time before pick up? Yanbu to be annoyed she shared personal info.
My dm is the opposite. Very judgey and open about it, over the years I've had to apologise for her comments. She would do school pick up twice a week and piss off and leave other parents giving me a reluctant hello. I found out from a mum who said to me she'd told off a dad because he would barely greet his ds when he came out of class . Ok , but it wasn't her place to comment. She drives me mad. That wasn't the only the incident.

ChipDip · 18/03/2015 10:47

Yanbu, it sounds as though because she treats you as a child she doesn't think you need to be respected. She is free to make friends at the school, but telling your friends personal details and then brushing it off as if you're the unreasonable one is really not on.

firefly78 · 18/03/2015 11:32

she went for lunch with this friend so its not just talking at the school gate. i knew something like this would happen hence why i didn't want her being all pally with school mums. she has no filter!!!
