To cancel my friend

Friend is travelling some way today with her DS to visit. She mentioned I passing she was at a party on Saturday and that half the people have now come down with a sickness bug. I did question her (I am a mild emetophobe) and she confident her and her DS are healthy. She said that children and adults have been coming down with illness gradually. So one mum and her kids Sat night, 2 more related kids on Sunday and their parents yesterday.

I have a toddler and an 8 week old and we've just got over a bug. DS was sick weekend before last.

Shall I cancel?

How long since u saw her?
Would she take offence?
Id risk going ahead. She'd b sick by npw if she had it

It's a bit late now isn't it? Can you just make sure she washes her hands properly - get some of that hand sanitiser in and say "I know it seems a bit OTT, but I'm emetophobic and since you mentioned people getting ill I'm panicking about the baby" etc.

I'm sure she'll understand and take precautions to prevent passing it on.

crymeariverwoo · 17/03/2015 09:55

I personally wouldn't cancel.

Mintyy · 17/03/2015 09:56

Yes.

Totality22 · 17/03/2015 09:56

Not seen her for a while and she is driving an hour.

She knows I'm phobic so I've just asked when last person was ill and she said last night two adults at party came down with it but their kids haven't? (it was a family party so she knows everyone there)

She isn't coming until later today.

That was "yes" to your question should I cancel? and yanbu to cancel.

Cockbollocks · 17/03/2015 09:59

If she is not actually sick then no I wouldn't cancel.

GoldenBeagle · 17/03/2015 09:59

Hand sanitiser is not generally effective against noro virus. Hot soapy water is.

AmyElliotDunne · 17/03/2015 10:01

If you're worrying about it you won't enjoy yourself so perhaps as she won't have left yet, cancel and relax rather than spend the next few days getting anxious in case you do catch it.

AmyElliotDunne · 17/03/2015 10:03

Good to know Golden, I don't use the stuff (unsanitary bugger that I am!) but I have a friend who carries it everywhere and it seemed like a less intrusive thing for OP to ask her friend to do than get them to wash their hands and stand over them making sure it's hot and soapy !

kissmethere · 17/03/2015 10:44

I'd cancel but you need to do it sooner rather than later. Why is she telling you about the bug? A heads up? I'd say sorry have to re arrange.

PrettyLittleMitty · 17/03/2015 10:46

Yanbu. Cancel, it's not worth the risk.

honeyroar · 17/03/2015 10:53

It sounds like the bug was more likely a food poisoning type thing than a bug, so you probably won't catch it, just wash your hands etc.

Could you not be honest with her and tell her you're worried about catching this bug as you've all just been ill?

Totality22 · 17/03/2015 10:54

She mentioned bug initially in passing. We were talking about the weekend.

I've just messaged to cancel. Cant be doing with us getting ill.
