To think that this is above and beyond? Customer service

We ordered a table a couple of weeks ago, it hasn't arrived yet as wanted weekend delivery.

Discovered today that the table has been reduced by £70 in the sale. I told dp and I was thinking that perhaps we.could order another and return the full price one, as obviously £70 is a lot of money.

Dp got on the phone and asked if they would refund the difference and they agreed, no questions asked. So £70 will be refunded in the next few days.

I think I generally have quite high expectations of shops but I was really surprised that they agreed to do this, I thought they'd say tough luck, it was x price at the time of purchase.

I'm pleased though and think it's great service.

If the item has not yet been delivered I think it is standard practice to refund the difference if the item is reduced, I've had this happen a few times.

I don't think it is exceptional service these days. I think it is just good business sense to not turn away good future business. I think it would be exceptional if they did not give you the discount if you asked for the same reason.
