I think it is very important to remember how things used to be for black and Asians in Britain. It's on now

I'm watching. It's really difficult viewing.

ghostyslovesheep · 15/03/2015 23:04

many of my black and Asian friends would tell you not a lot has changed :(

bette06 · 15/03/2015 23:18

I noted that one of the women going to Parliament to try to stop black and asian people living on her street was very offended at being accused of being racist - because, you know, she definitely wasn't Hmm It's depressing that this stuff just repeats itself.

babyboomersrock · 15/03/2015 23:39

I was in my late teens when that was happening - though I have no recollection of hearing anything about it. What vile behaviour from people who seemed to imagine they were upstanding members of the community.

Not sure how many will still be alive, but I wish they'd traced some of them to see how they intend to vote in the next election.

I wish I could believe that we've left those attitudes behind.

My word it's painful viewing. Sadly there are elements in society that still think this way. Poverty breeds the politics of blame and victimisation of minorities. Hmm

I've just watched it on +1 was truly awful. Those who don't remember history are forced to repeat Sad

FatCunt · 16/03/2015 00:15

Thanks for signposting this - am watching on 4OD. So bloody grim.

meandjulio · 16/03/2015 00:22

I missed some of the subtitles - is the lady with the short white hair Peter Griffith's daughter?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 16/03/2015 01:21

No she's the daughter of his campaign manager who I think is called Charles Dickens.

mollyonthemove · 16/03/2015 07:11

I was gripped by this - I was born in 1964 and knew nothing about it. Dh came up to bed whike inwas watching and said 'oh yes this was awful' - he was born in the Midlands in the 50's so kind of remembered it, also did a history degree so studied it.

Horrific stuff.
