They used to be about £3 for a box of 50 teabags. Now, they've individually wrapped them in a box of 20, and are charging over £2.50. I can do basic maths! I know that means you've more than doubled the price!

I know it'll be supply and demand and all that bollocks but aibu to be incredibly outraged?! Switching to loose leaf because I'm buggered if I'm spending that much money on so few teabags even if that does make it more of a faff. Yes, I am quite prepared to cut off my nose to spite my face

And they've done it to Chai too. Hmm Angry

Lapsang is vile so yabu.

Less so re the Chai.

I thought Twinings was one of those companies that was the epitome of civilized. Doubling the price doesn't seem very civilized of them.

I don't like tea though so I'd be lying if I said I felt your pain OP.

CheeseBored · 13/03/2015 16:58

Hmm I couldn't find lapsang anywhere in sainsburys the other day and was greatly annoyed. Maybe I will have to go the looseleaf way as well

Rhumba · 13/03/2015 17:08

I can still get them in some shops but noticed they've not been available for my Tescos order recently. . right off to stockpile

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 13/03/2015 17:11

I love Lapsang Souchong and about to buy some this weekend. Might bypass Tesco and go straight to the Chinese supermarket though.

It's the only tea I like to drink really hot, all the other ones I drink lukewarm but Lapsang taste much better properly hot.

FuzzyHeaded · 13/03/2015 17:52

Individually wrapped is so wasteful, too.

That said, loose leaf may be a faff but IMHO it tastes nicer...

hiddenhome · 13/03/2015 17:57

If you can be bothered, the loose tea does taste better.

I didn't bother ordering a box with my online shop because the reviews said the taste had changed Sad

PheasantPlucker · 13/03/2015 17:57

I totally agree! It has annoyed me too :-)

IndridCold · 13/03/2015 17:59

YWBU not to have been drinking loose tea in the first place. It's loads better!

Jennyjenjenjen · 13/03/2015 23:28

Oh my god YANBU. I bought my packet the other week and couldn't believe it. Individually wrapped and about 2 in there. Twinings can piss off!

Gartenzwerg · 13/03/2015 23:32

We love the posh jasmine teas from Twinings. They are ludicrously priced at something like £4.50 for 12 teabags, but by Jove they make a refreshing cuppa of an afternoon!

Radiatorvalves · 13/03/2015 23:33

Good god. I hope they don't do this to Earl Grey.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/03/2015 23:38

Also feeling the rage about the price hiking, downsizing and individual wrapping. I love lapsang but I will be looking for an alternative.

britishbakeoffblues · 13/03/2015 23:49

I drink Twinings Earl Grey decaf. They've almost doubled in price recently and they're never included in the buy 2 for £4 or a kidney even though the non-decaf is.
The supermarket's own brand doesn't taste the same. Shock
