My 4 year old son has been awake from 12.30 until at least 4ish as he has poor sleep and just lies awake. I'm waiting to get referred to see if poor sleep is part of a bigger problem but would.you wake him up now for school? I don't like keeping him off as he.is not unwell but he is not.going to be any good today as he will be so tired.

What would you do?

Take him in for the afternoon? Or take him in late?

At 4 years old I would keep him off

I would take him in, explain to the teacher and suggest an early pick up (anyhow, and definitely if he's struggling)

Thanks, when he has nights like this he is really distressed on waking. I have problems with him in the morning even when he has slept.

I wouldn't wake him, I'd keep him off for the morning and take him in this afternoon

I think you need to make a decison one way or the other to either keep him off for the whole day or take him in and make the teacher aware, s/he may suggest that you pick up early or adjust to take his disrupted sleep into consideration.

For those saying take him in late, this is school NOT a nursery or playgroup. Random arrivals and departures can be very disruptive to the plan for the day and other pupils.
