To feel I've been taken advantage of

Dear all,

Last week I had lunch with a work friend & we went to grab a coffee afterwards. She then announced to me in the cafe that I owed her, so I informed her I'd brought coffee for her the time we met before, but she said "No, you owe me for rescheduling", I didn't want to make a scene so I paid. This isn't really an issue about the money, but rather I feel really shocked by such behavior and like I don't want to meet this girl again. Am I being unreasonable here?

Nah, she's a dick. Get rid. But get a last coffee out of her first, then drop the bombshell as you leave without paying Grin

GingerCuddleMonster · 11/03/2015 23:09

well that's rude on her part. You don't owe someone money for 're-scheduling. Weirdo.

I just wouldt go again OP.

CocktailQueen · 11/03/2015 23:09

What?? What rescheduling when?? And no, YANBU. She is wrong. And greedy.

ILovePud · 11/03/2015 23:10

YANBU she has been rude and I don't blame you for not wanting to meet up with her again. My friends and I usually have standoffs with us both insisting that we should pay and treat the other.

Kazziepooes · 11/03/2015 23:10

I'd rescheduled from the previous week as I had a meeting...

FarFromAnyRoad · 11/03/2015 23:11

So why does she think you owe her? And owe her what exactly. Money?

ILovePud · 11/03/2015 23:12

How weird I've never heard of some social etiquette where if someone rearranges they should pay.

Charlotte3333 · 11/03/2015 23:12

She's a prick and that's nobody's fault but her own. Don't spend any more time with people like her, she sounds dreadful.

BubblesInMyBath · 11/03/2015 23:12

She's odd. And sounds hard work.

YANBU

Kazziepooes · 11/03/2015 23:12

ILovePud: me too! Which was why I was so shocked some people treat others like this, worst of it was, I sent a message to her after the event outlining my unhappiness and she didn't say sorry, but just shed buy me a drink/coffee next time. Actually, I would rather buy my own/go without!!!

OP posts:
Perfectlypurple · 11/03/2015 23:14

Get rid.

ManOfSpiel · 11/03/2015 23:14

Are you sure it wasn't a joke?

Sounds like the sort of thing my colleagues would do for a bit of banter.

If not then give her a wide berth.

Kazziepooes · 11/03/2015 23:15

Thank you for all being so supportive! I've been wondering whether to continue my lunch dates with her for the sake we work in the same company, but I realize now that I don't need to!

OP posts:
rosedavo · 11/03/2015 23:16

No thats pretty rude and feels like taking advantage, id make an excuse next time for not getting a coffee

Kazziepooes · 11/03/2015 23:17

ManOfSpiel: no she was serious! She sat down and left me at the counter!!!!!
If it were banter I wouldn't have been left at the counter with the cashier asking me for the cash.... I thin anyway

OP posts:
ManOfSpiel · 12/03/2015 06:01

Wow Kazzie that's amazing! The way you described it made me think it could only have been a joke but sadly not. Shocking!

In that case I'd say you were justified to steer clear.

FranTan · 12/03/2015 06:45

Good grief, what a strange thing to say! Agree - life's too short, get rid!

MsAspreyDiamonds · 12/03/2015 09:17

Sounds like my bil & sil, every since he married her he has turned into a grabby idiot.

countessmarkyabitch · 12/03/2015 10:15

You don't like each other,so why are you meeting her anyway?

btw, its woman and bought Wink

miniavenger · 12/03/2015 10:26

Wow she sounds like a complete twat, I'd get rid.

CunningCat · 12/03/2015 10:34

Life is too short to waste precious time with a rude arse!

STFUwhydontyou · 12/03/2015 10:36

Colossal twat. Bin.

bibliomania · 12/03/2015 10:42

Very odd. I have paid for a friend's lunch in the past as an apology for cancelling on her at the last minute previously, but I offered and she didn't expect it at all. My jaw would have dropped if she had told me I had to.

Stratter5 · 12/03/2015 11:10

btw, its woman and bought

I'm betting the OP doesn't consider her mature enough to be classed as 'woman'.
