I've lost count of the number of times I've seen my dentist since just before Christmas for an implant on a broken tooth and the follow up problems.
To get to the point last week I had really bad tooth ache and went to the dentist who couldn't really see a problem but replaced an existing filling in case it was that (while doing this the tooth which I had the implant on is super sensitive to cold so he did something to this tooth too). Went away and my jaw was sore for a few days and tooth ache was still there but assumed it would settle after a few days and it didn't. Managed to get another appointment for the Monday just gone - nearly a week since tooth ache started. Again dentist couldn't find anything. The tooth I thought was causing the pain has had a root canal done (well apparently) so it can't be that one. The dentist suggested I go home and try to work out which tooth is causing the pain even though he said the pain might be radiating from somewhere else.
Basically I've had enough. I can't work out which tooth it is and although I can manage the pain with painkillers I've been taking them non stop for a week now (should add that I'm off work with gastroenteritis and I'm pretty sure that they are contributing to the upset stomach). I've been 'squeezed in' for a 5 min appointment before they close tomorrow but what is he going to be able to do?
Would I be unreasonable to contact the out of hours dentist for a second opinion even though I'm able to manage the pain? I'm rapidly loosing faith in this dentist after both this and the implant debacle.
