To want to go to docs with sore throat?

It all started a week ago. I had a really chesty cough, chills and temp of 38. A few days later I felt like death - could barely pluck up the energy to go to toilet never mind drag my carcass out of bed for any other reason. Then it all faded away until I'm left with few symptoms other than a bit of fatigue, loss of appetite and the most horrendous sore throat. It's all swollen inside, red, white, crappy looking, my breath stinks and I feel like I'm swallowing razors whenever I swallow. Will it go away on its own or is this one actually a dr's job?

Sounds like tonsilitis. You might need antibiotics

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 06/03/2015 18:42

You've got an infection. Most likely tonsils.

You need antibiotics.

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/03/2015 18:45

It sounds like a bit more than just a sore throat. Yes, I think you need to visit GP. I would and I'm one of those people who never go unless I absolutely have to.

In the meantime, try gargling with salt water to keep your throat clean. Gargle every hour for the first day, then every 3 hours on second day until you either feel better or you can get a GP appt.

googoodolly · 06/03/2015 18:50

Ring the GP, you probably have tonsillitis.

In the meantime, salt-water gargles and paracetamol/ibuprofen alternated every two hours for the pain.

Mrscog · 06/03/2015 18:55

Definitely sounds like tonsillitis. You might be able to save yourself from a course of antibiotics by drinking some 40% spirits (works for me 70%of the time) brandy/whiskey or something.

AntsMarching · 06/03/2015 19:21

I think you should go to the doctor. I had the symptoms you describe and I had scarlet fever (last month). You really need antibiotics.

Fanfeckintastic · 06/03/2015 19:32

I never go to the doctor (plus I'm in Ireland and it costs 60 quid) but last Sunday I had to go to the emergency doctor with symptoms exactly as you've described! The doctor told me it was a good thing I came in as it wasn't going to get anything but worse without antibiotics, she gave me a double dose as it had gotten so bad and asked me to take the week of work!

Definitely go, you definitely need antibiotics!

londonrach · 06/03/2015 19:37

You need abs so need to see gp.

londonrach · 06/03/2015 19:38

(Found alcoholic mouth wash helps with pain and honey but dont quote me)

You need antibiotics
In the meantime get soluble aspirin or dispersible paracetamol and gargle with it - taking as long as possible. This will help the pain in throat

PumpkinPie2013 · 06/03/2015 20:40

Definitely go to the doctor - I had similar a few months back and it was infected tonsillitis which then led to glandular fever Sad

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

DirtyDancing · 06/03/2015 21:33

Right tonight you need to gargle with lemon, salt and warm water.

You might have tonsillitis or oral trush so pop to Docs in morning

BellMcEnd · 06/03/2015 21:36

Definitely GP or walk in clinic. You may well need antibiotics. Poor you. I had tonsillitis in my 20s after a night in a pub snogging a copper I've never felt so ill in my life. Lovely bloke though so almost worth it! Hope you feel better soon Flowers

NK5BM3 · 06/03/2015 21:50

I had that recently. Never ever had such a sore throat with razor blades. High temperature too. Dr said lots of pus and gave me some heavy duty antibiotics. Go to the dr. Nothing else worked.

EmptySoulKindHeart · 06/03/2015 21:58

you have an infection so go but in the meantime drink some honey and lemon warned

EmptySoulKindHeart · 06/03/2015 21:58
