Have been with DH 18 years. Mil has always been a nightmare, no social skills, aggressive drunk, narcissistic. Basically cannot bring her anywhere.
She has called me a c**t, my family names, embarrassed me in front of my friends. Lectures me constantly on how I should clean, look after dcs.
Time and time again DH and I have fought as he will stand up for us but all that happens is nc until something happens which forces us to be in same room, where we'll get a forced apology until next time.

DHs answer is to wait it out, as she won't be around for ever. She has medical issues and doesn't look after herself.
She rang me this morning to ask how my d's was as she heard he'd had a small accident. I couldn't even manage any pleasantries, I'm that tired of her.
Aibu to go nc myself but DH still see her and bring dcs to see her (live over hours drive away so not regular visits)

My dm and friends say it's DHs decision how to handle her and I should love him more than I dislike her but I'm finding it quite hard.

God no! Leave your DH to deal with her and never see or talk to her again.
