Today was my last ever governors' meeting, after six years as a governor. During that time I have taken on various important roles on the governing body, and the school went into and came out of special measures.

During the meeting today there was a discussion who would take on my roles and when my term would end (so there was awareness), but other than that there was nothing - no goodbye. I feel kind of sad, but am I expecting too much?

Yanbu, they're all miseries. Bet you're glad you've quit!

PesoPenguin · 02/03/2015 18:53

Wow YANBU!

emkana · 02/03/2015 18:55

I'm a pathetic wimp, I'm actually crying

YANBU. I would at least expect a card!

AliceLidl · 02/03/2015 18:58

They are miserable and ungrateful and rude.

I'm sorry they have upset you so badly.

Mrsstarlord · 02/03/2015 18:59

PumpkinsMummy · 02/03/2015 19:11

How ungrateful. I'd be hurt too.

GokTwo · 02/03/2015 19:15

Wow, that's so rude and thoughtless. At our school you would receive a card and bottle of wine and many sincere thanks. Yanbu. I feel for you.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 02/03/2015 19:17

Is it because your term hasn't actually ended yet? Maybe you'll get something after that..? Hopefully??

emkana · 02/03/2015 19:23

I was wondering that (pathetically), Whatsgoingon, but how would they get it to me? No more meetings for me...

OP posts:
TendonQueen · 02/03/2015 19:26

At the very, very least they should have formally thanked you for your time and your service to the school. They've been very bad mannered and ungrateful. Do. Mt still have to have dealings with the school?

emkana · 02/03/2015 19:29

No no dealings with the school
as such, but will see people around locally

I was a staff governor at the tough comp where I worked for 4 years. I did lots of training for it, never missed a meeting, made concise but informed contribution, supported the Head even when he was a bit of an arse, represented the students & my colleagues, prioritised students' interests & well being ... but received a word of thanks when I left.

After the things I learned & witnessed I became extremely cynical & wish that I hadn't done it.

Sometimes the powers that be are glad to see the back of anyone who is frighteningly perceptive.

Take it as a compliment if you can.

emkana · 02/03/2015 20:01

Maybe I'll get there one day Smile

emkana · 02/03/2015 20:42

I feel a bit childish because I just slipped away at the end

OP posts:
albertcamus · 02/03/2015 21:14

Sorry, my post came out wrongly : should have said NOT a word of thanks

I've put it down to (bitter) experience

On the Gov Body, only the parent governors were decent people motivated for the right reasons ... the Local Authority ones were without exception muppets, who voted as they'd been told, and the Community ones were well-meaning but much too easily duped by the misinformation & downright lies they were presented with

I would not put myself out again, although I was proud at the time

emkana · 02/03/2015 21:55

Of course I didn't become a governor for the bunch of flowers at the end, but I did expect some recognition. I am as of now the longest serving current member as well, not that that counts for anything

OP posts:
HumphreyCobbler · 02/03/2015 21:57

they sound appallingly rude. I am not surprised you are hurt.

ChipDip · 02/03/2015 22:00

Yanbu, how rude of them!
