To get unreasonably annoyed by the extractor fan?

Answering my own question there but seriously! The bloody things are so noisy, I'm trying to listen to the radio and cook and the baby is gibbering on in the background and the fan is one step too far. Since when did Opening The Window become so unfashionable?

I'm annoyed by mine too because I KNOW my dodgy kitchen renovator didn't drill a hole in the wall or place any ducting to connect itwith the open air. So where does the hot/stinky air go?? What is all the noise and fuss for?

Nope. Our bathroom fan conked out the other day. We are not replacing it. We just open the window instead. Such a relief!

They are irritating things, we have six if you count the cooker hood and I rarely use any.

I also know of someone where the house set on fire after one was left on too long. I know this probably is rare but it did put me off the things

TropicalHorse Most fans come with the option to use either external venting or carbon filters. The filters need replaced once they're done so you might want to check yours or you'll be putting up with the noise without the benefits.

I love mine, the kitchen one gets rid of smells and steam and the bathroom one needs upgrading but is much more efficient than the window.

I hate extractor fans with a passion. When we moved into our house it was full of gaps and drafts and the wind used to literally howl through the downstairs bathroom extractor. When it was really cold I used to cover it over with clingfilm and sellotape, we never actually use it anyway so it made no difference.

The one in the ensuite in the corner of our bedroom also drives me crazy as it rattles in the wind. It gets so loud it can wake me up on windy nights even with the door closed.

We've just built an extension and according to building control we need to fit an extractor in the kitchen. I'm not happy about this at all as again I will not use the bloody thing! We now have to knock a hole in the wall simply to please the building inspector, it's like a bad joke.

Ban the extractor fans!

The ones in the bathroom in this house drive me bonkers as they come on when you turn the light on. If you need to go for a wee in the night you don't want the bloody extractor fan on. Our kitchen one isn't ducted Tropical, it has filters which we never clean
