To think truffle chips are the greatest thing ever?

I have only recently discovered these. Chips in truffle oil with parmesan cheese on them. Appreciate I am probably very late to this particular chip-based party.

BUT they are bloody amazing.

Previously I would have argued that chips with cheese (cheap, grated cheddar) were the best chips. Followed by chip shop chips with gravy (DH thinks me deviant - am simply Northern), then chips with mayo in third place.

But truffle chips are like gods chips. AIBU?

I don't think my local chippy does truffle chips.

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2015 18:48

I don't think mine does either. Have had them twice now, in restuarant when work has been paying. Which possibly makes them taste even nicer :)

Want want want. Where do I find them?

AmserGwin · 16/02/2015 18:50

Never heard of them, will look out for them now though :)

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2015 18:50

I had them today in a Prezzo, which I think are pretty ubiquitous. (I live in back water and we have just had one open, so they must be everywhere)

We had truffle chips with our steak on Valentine's Day - amazing! Had them in the States last year and this was first time I recreated them at home. To be honest I think anything would taste amazing with truffle oil and Parmesan!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 16/02/2015 18:52

Yes yes yes! I can sniff out truffles anywhere and this is a great way to get my fix!

Our favourite restaurant in Oxford does them and I always order them even when I know my dinner is more than adequately sized!

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2015 18:52

Were they as nice when you made them Plate? I was thinking of getting a bottle of oil and giving it a go but was worried they would turn out rubbish (or I would just drink the oil Blush )

fanjo

Buy potatoes, Parmesan, truffle oil.

Make chips

Sprinkle with grated Parmesan and truffle oil

Scoff!

Lulabellarama · 16/02/2015 18:56

If you buy I oil to make them at home I can re commend the following alternative uses:

Cauliflower soup with pecorino and truffle oil

Added to a mushroom cream sauce to have with steak

Added to mash

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2015 18:57

Oh god, that all sounds gorgeous. Especially the soup.

The soup is amazing and so simple. Perfect starter for dinner parties!

HerRoyalNotness · 16/02/2015 18:59

Popcorn sprinkled with truffle salt is THE business. And for bonus points, super easy.

PinkSnowAndStars · 16/02/2015 19:00

I'm from Oxford....

I NEEEEEEEED TO KNOW WHERE!!

PunkAssMoFo · 16/02/2015 19:03

Jamie's italian does them. Lush.

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2015 19:03

There's a Prezzo on Castle Street in Oxford

Also - if you join their mailing list they send you a voucher for a 2nd main course for £2.50, leaving more money to spend on truffle chips.

Add some truffle oil to mushroom omelette or mushroom risotto to wack the taste buds!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 16/02/2015 19:09

whispers the Rickety Press up in Jericho. Also do a mean runny yolk scotch egg with brown sauce....

mildlyacquiescent · 16/02/2015 19:10

Oh god, there go my diet plans for February.

Plateofcrumbs · 16/02/2015 19:20

Truffle oil on scrambled eggs is one of my favourite breakfasts

Royalsighness · 16/02/2015 19:33

I have a bottle of truffle Oil here and opened it to use to dress a rocket salad with some pine nuts and that, it smells like a garlicky vagrant burp and had me wretching for a few days after.

I'm pregnant and something about it didn't agree with me
