To love looking at BAFTA/Grammy frocks?

Obviously not. I am no fashionista but I do like a quick look at a lovely frock (or a not-so-lovely one, for that matter). I just thought for those who haven't seen her I would share this picture of Madonna at the Grammys. 56!

The Guardian has slideshows of both the BAFTAs and the Grammys - links at the bottom of this article.

This stuff bored me senseless. I couldn't be less interested in an overpriced outfit worn by someone I don't know at an event I didn't go to.

I do dislike 'celebrity culture' in general though, so I steer well clear of this sort of gubbins anyway.

CrystalHaze · 09/02/2015 08:10

Also, do you mean 'madonna looks amazing for 56' or 'what a ridiculous outfit for someone old enough to know better'?

lollilou · 09/02/2015 08:14

I'm no fashion expert either but I like looking at the dresses too. Esp the misses! Think Madonna looks fab though.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/02/2015 08:16

I think I mean she's three years older than me and looks in amazing shape, far better than I ever have or ever will - she also has the confidence to dress in an astonishingly look-at-me way, which again I would never, ever do. I don't think I'm envious because I'm me and quite happy with the way I am, but when I come up against these very confident, goodlooking older women it does give me pause, I suppose.

At the BAFTAs, I thought Kristin Scott Thomas looked absolutely beautiful, as she always does. I see she's a year older than me. Ah well.

I love madonna who wants to see her in a gown? Esp one acceptable to the masses. I hope she is doing this when she is 90

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/02/2015 09:15

I hope I'm there to see her doing it when she's 90! I'd be 87...

I am bemused by some of the hit/miss verdicts for the BAFTAs on the Guardian...especially Romola Garai's bizarre jumper/skirt combo...clearly I don't understand high fashion!

GrouchyKiwi · 09/02/2015 09:31

I love looking at the gowns etc too. There's a great website called gofugyourself.com that has fun commentary and I spend way too much time there during awards season.

PrimalLass · 09/02/2015 09:54

I don't really agree with the Guardian's hit/miss judgements either.

Whatisaweekend · 09/02/2015 11:33

Oh I LOVE seeing all the dresses!! Haven't seen much of the BAFTA/Grammy coverage yet (saw Gugu Mbatha Raw looking lovely although the front seams made it look like she had peculiar nipples) but will be looking online later so thanks for the Guardian link. Do you watch Fasion Police? Not so good since Joan Rivers died but still fun with the 'glam cam' etc.

squoosh · 09/02/2015 12:00

YANBU

Oh I love a good red carpet, can’t beat a bit of frock watch.

Why the hell did Madonna have her arse hanging out at the Grammy’s though? It’s okay Madonna, we’ve all seen your bum. Several times in fact. And your boobs, and your undercarriage, and probably most of your vital organs too. You can put it away now.

JuanFernandezTitTyrant · 09/02/2015 13:02

Love an awards frocks gallery. But agree that the hits/misses don't always make sense.

eddiemairswife · 09/02/2015 13:17

Romola's Garai's skirt appeared to be made from bubble wrap, and someone (Kim?) at the Grammys had come out in her dressing gown.

sugarspunsista · 09/02/2015 13:22

I love awards season! I love Hollywood glamour. I watch E! Red carpet coverage of glamorous actresses while drinking tea and eating chocolate Blush

squoosh · 09/02/2015 13:25

Rihanna looked as though she was drowning in a swamp of pink chiffon quick sand.

Such a beautiful young woman and she's come dressed as a toilet roll holder.

I love looking at awards ceremony frocks too and it's the only time I go to Mail Online as invariably they have the best photos of the events. I also adore Go Fug Yourself.

IsabellaofFrance · 09/02/2015 14:16

I adore looking at all the beautiful frocks, and a few of the WTF ones. Rihanna looks like she is drowning.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/02/2015 15:42

Hannah Bagshawe's dress was lovely, I thought.

I'm not a huge fan of Rihanna but thought her hair and make up suited hair...and then there was the dress Shock. I quite like what Reese Witherspoon was wearing

GlitzAndGigglesx · 09/02/2015 15:54

Suited her*

Uppatea · 09/02/2015 20:51

I loved Taylor Swift's dress. Beautiful, understated and an unusual colour.

I am unfashionable and uninterested in it. But there's something about a glamorous frock.....

Kernowgal · 09/02/2015 21:39

I thought Reece Witherspoon was the best dressed of all of them. Some were WTF, others were really boring, still others looked like they'd raided their mum's dressing up box. Reece just looked fabulous.

I don't know the first thing about fashion but I can vaguely tell when someone looks good. But the Grammy and Bafta outfits mostly left me feeling meh. Maybe it was the lighting but very few looked particularly good.

I have to say that Keira Knightley looked really lovely in her yellow dress with longer hair. I am not her biggest fan but she looked very pretty.
