to wonder whether hypnotherapy is difficult to make a living from

Hi all

I am considering training to become a hypnotherapist, but while the treating people part sounds really interesting, I am wondering how much of a viable "working to earn enough money" option this really is?

I have looked at various forums online where the consensus is that you not only have to be a good practitioner but also have a good marketing / business head. Also that, even in an area where there are potential clients, it is still a constant struggle to get people through the door.

So I am wondering if there are any hypnotherapists out there who could let me know what their experience has been?

I am fairly shy so I can't see myself being able to sell myself in all the ways that I have found mentioned (social media / blogging / google ads / holding free talks/workshops etc...), so maybe this really isn't the right thing for me?

Thanks in advance for any opinions Smile.

I'd think your main problem is that it's not consumable as such, people won't (or at least shouldn't) need to be repeat customers for any real length of time. I think most sustainable businesses as something that effectively runs out and needs to be replaced, if you're a good therapist then there should be a finite amount of earning potential from each client.
I will admit I know little about running a business, have been to hypnotherapy sessions though.

I disagree with this a little. I've had hypnotherapy and it works better if I go back for a refresher every now and then (especially for arachnophobia in a country where you only see the really scary ones for about six weeks in the autumn).

I meant you're unlikely to see someone once a week for the rest of your career. Maybe once every six weeks, six months, whatever is appropriate for the treatment your having, but can you make a living on that? Mine was different is was driving test related so I went a few times, passed the test, no need to return as it "worked". I speak highly of the therapist but to my knowledge I've never gotten her any business. I think it's a very tricky business to be in if you're not able to market yourself appropriately and continuously. Good luck whatever you decide op.

Thank you! Am researching training courses at the moment and will see where that leads.
