To chop off my own hands

Somehow I have contracted hand foot and mouth. Toddler DS is a carrier apparantly. The spots appeared today and the itching is relentless. GP has prescribed antihistamines and steroid cream. Not yet working.

Aibu to remove my own hands? Or failing that if I cannot summon the courage to ask one of you to remove aforementioned hands? Angry

My mouth funnily enough is fine so far, just a sore throat. I can deal with the pain it's just the fecking itching.

Have you tried having a porridge bath? Works for my excema when I'm having a bad day. Fill a pop sock with porridge, leave it to steep in a warm bath so the bath goes milky. Then wash yourself with it squeezing it all over you. Normally abates the itching on me for a day or two.....but that's excema, not sure if would have the same effect but worth a try?

Feet are not too bad at the minute. More tender than anything but I can deal with that.

I will put porridge on my shopping order tonight!

I had that. Surprisingly sore aren't they. Now I've got eczema on them and by heavens it's itchy, relentlessly itchy!

I also have bleeding, cracked fingers. I sometimes want to cut mine off too.

The absolute best thing on earth for non-allergic itching is a cream or lotion called Eurax. Also good is pine tar soap, if you can possibly get your hands on anything.

Trust me, any itching remedy out there, I have tried (managed to suffer with both PUPPPS and Obstetric Cholestasis during my pregnancy). I know my shit.

Another good tip, if you are finding that you are scratching so much you bleed is to use a soft brush e.g a babies hair brush to brush your skin rather than scratch it.

Deepest sympathies, itching sucks.

Run a nice bath and dump some bicarbonate of soda in the water. It will help relieve the itching.

You have my sympathies.
