Casting a baby's bottom

Willabywallaby · 15/01/2015 21:08

I've often admired a local lady who does the hand cast models/handprint jewellery etc. but she's posted a baby's bottom she's cast.

AIBU to think it's a but weird?

I'm holding back posting how I love her work but his is a step to far I find it really unpleasant. Yes, a baby's bottom is cute, but to cast it to keep?!

I wouldn't want to cast a baby's bum, not because it's tacky or rude but because of the chance of a poonami in the plaster.

This. How on earth does she deal with baby weeing/pooing?

Allstoppedup · 16/01/2015 14:23

This thread keeps making me chuckle!

...I guess the occasional poonami has to happen but perhaps you could work with it to create a bronzed baby arse classy, spouting water feature? Grin

I will try and link to pic...

All of these baby moments- feet , hands etc are just awful. As a adult (especially adult male) would you honestly want a cast of your baby feet? Would you display yours and OH matching baby parts in your house now?

Most wil be binned by those in their 20s when they leave home.

MimsyBorogroves · 16/01/2015 20:13

Can you imagines the polishing if you had lots of children?

"Can't come out tonight, I'm dusting my arses" Hmm

OneNight · 16/01/2015 20:17

A long while ago, I had a friend who had been a 'plaster caster'. Now that puts baby bottoms in perspective. Grin

simbacatlivesgain · 16/01/2015 20:22

Well i was going to add that if you were the type of person to cast and display your boobs the you might display childrens body parts

It is a bit morbid as this was done in georgian/victorian times for dead babies including stillborn. There are royal ones.

dontcallnotdating · 16/01/2015 22:33

I think it'd be great to embarrass a grown up dc with - but otherwise I don't see the point!

Allstoppedup · 16/01/2015 23:12

mimsy actually just snorted at "dusting my arses", it beats "I'm washing my hair" as an excuse any day!

Willabywallaby · 17/01/2015 00:01

Sorry I couldn't see how to link to FB page, but if you search Times To Treasure her most recent pics are of the bottom having the impression and the cast.

I think it weird and cringey but I find bump casts a bit odd too so maybe I'm not the best person to give an opinion.

The more I think about it the weirder it is.

MrMacadoo · 17/01/2015 08:25

she was commissioned to do it by the parents, it's not like she has done it for her own personal collection Grin I bet she gets all manner of odd requests. this is the first one she has done but i bet she will get loads more. its not something i would want but i can see why people would want it done

BoredChurch · 17/01/2015 10:04

I'm sure the kid will appriciate it when he is older Confused.

Commissioned or not it's still wierd

Willabywallaby · 17/01/2015 12:46

Yes she's getting lots of good comments on it.

I like the models of holding hands she does, but they are expensive dust gatherers IMO.

Not something I'd want but doesn't really bother me either.

I want little feet/hands done if I can when baby is born. It'll be a keepsake for us so I'm guessing the parents just want something a little different.... for all we know their house is full of bronzed naked sculptures so this little baby's bottom is nothing in the grand scheme! Ha!

daisychain01 · 17/01/2015 14:57

YANBU and I like the typo

A but weird? Or a weird butt ...

FrancesNiadova · 17/01/2015 15:47

They won't thank you when they're 16! Shock

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/01/2015 16:19

I don't like the metal casts of hands and feet as I think they are really macabre, the Victorians did something similar in marble when a child died in infancy and I just can't shake that off. The only thing I can think of is that with a cast of a bottom, it would be really expensive, but not really look like anything IYSWIM, so not my thing, but not odd.

When our boys were little, I put their first pair of walker shoes in a box frame, with their names, birthday and when they started walking in calligraphy underneath. They hang either side of my dressing table, so are totally private, and I will make room for the same with #3. I know some people don't like this kind of thing either. I think with baby keepsakes, it's each to their own.

Jengnr · 17/01/2015 17:27

I think it's weird and I LOVE my son's little squidgy bottom.
