All too often, threads are suspended while MNHQ investigate the veracity of the OP.
What I'm wondering is, has an 'investigated' thread ever returned because it turned out the poster was genuine? Troll-hunt posts were initially deleted on the thread in question, so MN obviously thought it was genuine to start with, but earlier today it was under investigation and now it's gone.
TL:DR - are suspected hoax threads ever found to be genuine?
