Have you tried being direct with him?
I've discovered the secret of getting DH to do housework is to specifically tell him to do a specific job. E.g. You can sort out the laundry while I do the washing up. Then when he's done that job give him the next.

It sounds a bit patronizing and for ages I avoided doing it as he is obviously an adult and could think to do some housework for himself but discovered this led to me seething with resentment and doing all the work. Direct approach works!

Yeah I think I'm still in the stage of "you have eyes, surely you can see what needs doing just like I can?!"
However I am today questioning his sight after he swept downstairs and put the brush away, I said 'you need to do upstairs' he said 'why it's carpet?' I said 'no it's not we've got wooden floors' he didn't believe me and went to check!!
I possibly need to send him to the opticians after I've shoved this brush up his arse!

I had a similar comment to the carpet one today. Asked DH to buy washing powder and he came back with biological. Now, totally aside from the fact that it's prob no good for one year old DD, he is allergic to bio wash powder (hence we have been buying non-bio for past 13 years). His response "Am I?" (puzzled expression). He did do a good job with rest of shopping though, so shouldn't complain!

AllStoppedUp we've lived here for 2 & 1/2 years, and had wooden floors the entire time!
How can wood feel like carpet on your feet? Was he confusing his socks with the floor?? Words fail me!

In a similar vein, DH swore blindly that the back door to the house we're moving into is dark brown. It's blinding white uPVC. I wouldn't think this unusual, except we've been spending hours there, cleaning and measuring and doing little DIY jobs and one of his was to wipe down and measure the WHITE BACK DOOR.
