To expect NOT to hear my neighbour coughing in bed.

FFS! Did 1930s builders just not bother with anything more than brown paper between the party wall of these houses.

My NND is an arse of a man and to have to hear his guttural throat clearing through the bedroom wall is hideous.

Bear in mind I have had some (basic) sound proofing done so Lord knows what it would be like if I hadn't.

It's bad enough I hear him shout at his wife and kids without listening to his horrid bodily functions!

Grrrrrrrrrrr. I need to win the lottery so I can move to a detached house.

laughing at the couple not having sex since girlfriend moved in'

Reminds me of a Victoria Wood joke. Something like......heard the neighbour having sex with her husband. How do you know it was her husband? Well...heard a lot of banging about followed by 'don't bother Gordon, I'll do it myself...

i'll swap you his occasional coughing for my neighbours all-night smokers cough thats so bad it wakes my kids up, has gone on almost nightly for 3 years or so and has got so bad that we regularly bang the wall to her (she's only in her 30s)

The once it got so bad i yelled through the wall that if she didnt stop coughing that i would come around there and force feed her laxatives and then see how much she fucking coughs!!

Our 1930s terrace has had the chimney breast removed right up to the roof at the front of the house (and on NDNs side too), whereas at the back of the house the chimney breast remains. I find this seems to have made a big difference to the sound, as there is no longer a massive chunk of bricks in the way.

Removing chimney breasts gives you more room sure, but it buggers up the sound insulation!

I have a 1930s semi and it is sound as a pound-no corners cut anywhere. However I do know that the first inhabitants were relatives of the builders so maybe that is why!
Seriously though there are chimneys between all the rooms on the party wall so I don't know if that helps

I have a late Victorian terrace as well, and the walls are very thin. House on one side is rented, 3 lads recently moved in. One is a DJ...oh the joys. To his credit he did turn the music down when I went round after being woken up by rave music at 2.30am.
The highlight so far was at 3am one night when I had to listen to one of them throwing up really noisily in their bathroom after coming home pissed

I'm in a Victorian terrace too. Split into flats so we might as well be living together. And as someone said earlier, you literally can hear someone turn on a light switch. My downstairs neighbour snores at a volume that could wake the dead, has a smokers cough and is single but very well acquainted with his hand. He also seems to manage to get himself caught up in a whole multitude of dramas that play themselves out at a volume it's difficult to avoid.

I’m not a mother so apologies for being on the forum but I am a vulnerable, late 20s, lone living, ethnic minority, isolated, chronically ill female currently trapped in a very bad housing association flat above a disgusting, perverted, nasty, racist, loud, vile, lying, awful, middle aged, English, lone living but overly supported by his family and friends and other neighbours , lowlife of a neighbour , whose every sound I can hear and I despise the housing association for how poorly built this tiny cave of an upstairs flat is. Even at this time way past 11:30pm I can clearly and loudly hear disgusting sounds including the coughing.
ive been here two years and still have no money to pay for anything so moving isn’t even an option . Nobody has helped me in the ongoing anti social behaviour case either including people knowing outdoor bins over, late night knocking and of course the loud banging. Despite temporarily being unemployed and out of education I do have responsibilities and need for quiet. I am so uncomfortable in this horrible situation that so much clutter has built up and also I have declined in my brain power. I hate the housing association, police., council, organisations I’ve reached out to that failed me, and of course the people doing the targeted wrongdoing!
I am literally in poverty and don’t ask how I’m typing on a phone. Any items I bought in rare and short lived employment periods , I can’t replace. I am disciplined in budgeting yet still an left with no choice.
it’s all hell. Can someone please help me
