To call the police

I'm sick of it now... A very, very loud car alarm started going off at 11pm last night outside the house. Its now 4pm the following day and despite occasionally stopping for upto 10 mins at a time its still going off. I haven't lived in the area long and don't know who the car belongs to. Would aibu to ring the none emergency police number and ask them to try and locate the car's owner?

I would probably call the environmental health noise nuisance number, likely to get quicker response. I have just checked our local council website and continuous sounding of car alarms is mentioned. But no@ harm in calling non emergency number police as well, but may be slow response

call the non emergency number if they cant help they will tell you.
They are in control and if they want you off the line they wil get you off the line. so try it.

We had a neighbour who had a car with a stupidly sensitive alarm that'd go off for the slightest thing. One night it'd been going for around 4hrs before we called the Police (I think everyone assumed someone else would do it). As the car was on a driveway the Police couldn't touch it as driveways are classed as private property (who knew?) but they practically kicked the guys door in to get him to wake up. Once he had deactivated the alarm he was told quite sternly not to reset it and to get the car fixed. So yeah, Police 101 is what you want.

When that happened on our road after a day of EEEUUUw-eeeeUUWW someone smashed the window of the car to turn the alarm off!

To update.. I rang 101 and they said to ring back if it was still going strong by 11pm (so after 24 hours) luckily someone re-appeared to claim said car about 8 that night and took it away ;) Not before getting an earful off our next door neighbor though...
