To think this is bullshit?

My consultant and I decided to order a diagnostic test at my check up 5 weeks ago, and I would get an appointment in the post. After 3 weeks I hadn't heard anything so phoned his secretary and left a message. She never rang back.

I kept trying over the next fortnight, eventually I got hold of the secretary in person, and what do you know? She was about to do the referral in just a few minutes' time.

AIBU to think that is bullshit, it shouldn't take 5 weeks to get round to doing a referral/making an appointment for a diagnostic test, and they've simply forgotten about me for the past 5 weeks?

I work in a doctors surgery and even non urgent referrals are done with in a couple of days so based on that yanbu. I'm not sure how hospitals work though, we just got bank dd's physio report which she had last January ShockHmm

Yanbu - sounds like they forgot to me.

Yanbu. Complete bull. My mum has just had a procedure due to take place on Friday cancelled because the consultant did not advise her GP the date. It was necessary for one of her meds to be stopped for a week prior to the procedure. The effing consultant is trying to blame me!

Not just me then- is January a record??

YANBU My Ds is waiting for an appointment after ending up in the A&E and the GP referring him to a specialist. It all happened in October. I'd like him to see the specialist sooner so he doesn't end up back in A&E again. It all takes way too long.

Well, I phoned up again after not hearing anything by Monday as promised, and she said she unexpectedly had time off so did the referral on Weds, so I should get my letter today. Seeing as I was on the phone anyway, she told me the date/time if my appointment. It's next week. So it's a good job I phoned and asked, else I wouldn't have been able to tell work till Monday that I need a day off next week.

While I'm glad that I don't have to wait ages for my appointment after waiting ages for the referral to be done, it's a shit system! What if you need more than a few days' notice to get the time off work?
