Eating one week old sweet corn stored in the fridge

Not aibu but looking for a quick answer.
How bad is eating half a can of sweet corn which was stored in a bowl in the fridge?

Ds (2 yrs) has had a loose tummy for two weeks which is a worry in itself. Today my mom fed him sweet corn which I had taken out of the fridge to throw away. He has had dreadfully runny nappies for the last couple of weeks including today but he also just threw up all over and seems to have tummy pain .

How bad would this sweet corn have been for him? I tasted it when I saw what mom had done and it tasted and smelled fine...

I don't think anyone can say how bad it might have been for him to eat it after a week, but if he's had a loose tummy for two weeks I'd get him to see a doctor regardless.

Even though they're just getting to grips with their immune system at 2 YO (I'll never forget DD2s first run in with a norovirus type of manky, talk about explosive! ) it's not good for him to have it for so long.

My reckoning would be that if it was 'off' off then at least he's thrown it up and hopefully his body's dealing with whatever's left.

Thank you agent. Yes, will call the Gp tomorrow and go through the telephone triage. He seems better now and demanded cornflakes to eat .

I hope we can solve the loose stool problem but not sure what the Gp can do...

Corn is hard to digest anyways, and certainly not ideal for a child with a delicate stomach. Keep him on easy to digest stuff like white rice, or white rice cooked in chicken broth, applesauce, soda crackers, jello or toast. I would keep him dairy and soy free for now as well, as both can cause digestive troubles.

It takes a very long time before corn becomes dangerous: it's usually full of sugar, which preserves it. Sounds like the poor child was already unwell, and if the corn tasted and smelled fine, it probably was fine.

However, if he's had dire rear for a couple of weeks and is also vomiting, a trip to the doctor might be in order. Dehydration can become serious in small children.

I think the sweet corn would be fine but agree with getting him to the docs anyway if he's been bad for two weeks
