Would it be weird to...

Chain my pushchair to the bike racks in town?

I need the pushchair to get to and from town. I just don't need it around town - as in the toddler is much happier wandering around the shops - so I end up holding her with one hand and badly pushing the buggy with the other.

Would this be genius, or just very very weird?

Do it, but both wear full on cycle gear, complete with helmets.

I used to do this it's perfectly reasonable

Wassailywassailywassaily · 17/12/2014 16:50

My vote is Genius

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 17/12/2014 16:51

I chain my buggy outside shops sometimes so don't see why you shouldn't do it.

Delphine31 · 17/12/2014 16:54

If you have one of those pricey travel systems, I would invest in a D-lock!

The flexible chains some cyclists use can be quickly cut through with one snip by professional thieves, and I gather there are thieves out there who do steal pushchairs.

I would never lock my bike up with a chain and there are pushchairs that cost a lot more than my bike! A D-lock should do it though.

It's not worth a lot anymore, it's just a Maclaren so I could fold it up and then chain it up. I wouldn't be devastated if it was nicked - I think I'd be more annoyed about having to cajole DD all the way back home.

Just wondering what people would think if they say a pushchair chained up outside the shop!

I just used to abandon my buggy in the town centre, no one ever nicked it, I would just park it up out side a shop no lock , it was always there when I went back, and this was in the city centre.

BadtzMaru · 17/12/2014 17:29

Is there a bus or train station nearby with luggage lockers, might be more secure than the bike rack.

youbethemummylion · 17/12/2014 17:31

Do it, if its good enough for Center Parcs...

ErrolTheDragon · 17/12/2014 17:33

YANBU, def more genius than weird.

ithoughtofitfirst · 17/12/2014 17:34

Yeah man. Do it.

Discopanda · 17/12/2014 18:21

I used to do this. Got a Kryptonite mini D lock and never had any problems.

Psycobabble · 18/12/2014 10:05

I wouldn't look twice well other than to think I wish id bloody thought of that !!

toffeeboffin · 18/12/2014 23:09

Genius. Was actually thinking something similar myself the other day Wink

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2014 23:13

Genius idea, not weird at all, and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

AllSorted · 18/12/2014 23:13

I have done this before - just make sure you don't leave anything valuable / sentimental in it that can easily be snatched (although it is sad we have to think about these things!)

Thurlow · 19/12/2014 14:19

DP thinks this is a ridiculously stupid idea, but then he tends to drive to town rather than walk, so I've decided that I'm going to do it.

Birdsgottafly · 19/12/2014 14:23

I've seen this done.

I know lots of people who use the buggy store in Museums/Supermarkets/Library's etc in our main shopping centres.

In our city you pay a £1 for these.

It saves having to wait for lifts and negotiate packed shops.

NotCitrus · 19/12/2014 16:55

There's often a buggy or two chained up at my local station - now dd is nearly 3 and could walk around town fine, but might well be a nightmare to make walk a mile home again, I will be buying a lock too (mostly to stop the buggy blowing onto the railway - it's pretty rubbish).

whois · 19/12/2014 18:34

Totally R!

WillkommenBienvenue · 19/12/2014 18:39

Genius. Patent the idea.

bonzo77 · 19/12/2014 18:44

I've often padlocked the buggy at the park and at the health centre. It's a popular model, and not a very strong lock, but I think if I lock it mine won't be the first to go IYSWIM.
