To just HATE "bring a toy" days at my DC school?

They're so frigging fraught!

My DC don't have an awful lot of toys. They're ten and 6 and they have things which are mainly made up of loads of pieces and are craft based or they're soft toys, dolls, houses etc.

The older one has a tablet.

What on earth do yours take? We just don't DO board games!

Why not do board games? They are one of the best things you can do with your child. All spend time together, have fun and educational. You can't beat them. Take a pack of cards-just as good.

My favourite day ever at infant school, still remember it now 27 years on!

Mehit the DDs don't like them and neither do I! They're not "one of the best things you can do" if you don't enjoy them.

Boys usually bring action figures and girls usually bring dolls
Something that they can join in with others with really. Board games require too much attention and often bits get lost.
Deffo no lego-gets mixed up with other peoples causing ww3!

Or don't bother-they can play a friend's game.

Pig ten year old boys?

Send him in with 'twister' no parts to lose and lots of people can join in. It's cheap too.

As a teacher I would say they are one of the best things! You can't beat chess as a game. They are all so different. Just a pack of playing cards gives you endless games.

Mehit None of us can play chess. We don't like board games.

Dd has this every friday for golden time. Electrical toys are not allowed. She usually takes in felt tips and notebooks. She has taken in dolls and her story cubes a couple times and a few playmobil figures once. Other girls tend to take dolls, board games and crafty stuff or books. No idea about the boys. She's in year 3.

All board games?

Maybe you need some more toys? Your children really have no games, no puzzles, no figures, nothing that can be played in a group?

Mehit Yes! anything with a board, counters and turns. Absolutely MIND NUMBING!

Op we don't do board games either. Yes they might be educational but I hate them. Lots of other things can be educational and we do homework. The short time we have with the dcs who are at school, isn't just about learning.

Pick something up from a charity shop? Then it won't matter if it gets lost or broken.

Our school don't do it but I remember it well from my own school days; everyone wanting to play with everyone else's toys and not their own .

Art They have figures and craft type things...a lot of sets of houses and animals. They have a lot of books and jigsaws and lego...but no board games and no games. No. They don't play well together in that way. They play imaginary games but whenever they sit to play something as a pair with a board, they fight.

Even when DH or I joins in. We just don't buy them anymore.

A child broke their arm at our school playing twister.

Beats homework any day. I always said play board games. Cards quicken up things like number bonds in a fun way.
However I accept you don't like them. Personally I wouldn't get involved-let them work it out-just refuse to let them take anything precious and anything with small parts to get lost.

I'm not very impressed with board games in general either. There's one or two I don't mind but it's not for me.

Pens and paper sounds goid.

Mehit With the eldest being ten and the youngest six, the age gap is a bit too big for them to really enjoy playing games like this....the older one ends up having to explain too much to her sister as she doesn't read well yet.

So "letting them work it out" doesn't work.

Dc takes something that he doesn't care if it gets lost or broken.

With DS it's normally a transformer.
With DD is her ponies.

I would never allow them to take special toys. With Ds that his chip hazard figure as it was mission impossible to get in the first place.

I find my 10 year old isn't that into toys anymore really. She'd rather ay football, write poems and stories or dance/sing.
