It's not quite as weird as it sounds. I can't manage stairs so the dinning room has been converted into his room until he's old enough to be upstairs alone. Last year we used a fold up table in the middle of the living room which was a bit tight. This year we have guests so I'm wondering if I should put the dinning table back up in the dinning room for one day. Is it too weird? It looks very much like a little boy's room.

I recently had a dinner party in the playroom, rather than the dining room, for space reasons. Children's 'art' al over the walls, shelves full of toys and books etc. very clearly a (pre-school aged) children's room, but hey, it meant we could all sit down and crucially get out o the loo if needed without tripping over chairs/edging around.

Christmas dinner should be held in whichever room can accommodate sufficient chairs and table for the (generally unusually-large) number of guests.

Decor is only taken into account if you have a selection of rooms that fit the "can everybody sit down?" criteria.

We have xmas dinner in the playroom at home, as we use the breakfast room day to day, but have usually about 20-25 people on the day, it works fine.

can you get his bed etc out? ours is big enough that the sofas and chairs can be pushed back but even then there is a fair bit of squeezing involved! If it's just 'and it has teddy bear wallpaper' then totally fine!'

Clutter put tidily away, even if on display,Christmas candles/lights, booze uncorked, sparkling glasses(in aforementioned candles/lights), warm ambience, warm welcome - PERFICK!

Bedroom it is then. It's a big room with loads of space as he's still in a cot and it isn't completely over run with toys yet.

I love things like this! One of my most exciting days as a teacher was when my classroom was unavailable due to building work overunning and I had to have a temporary classroom in different parts of the school. Myself and the kids loved it! Go for it. It will be great!
