All of those people making ignorant, racist comments on the thread about Michael Brown (RIP).

I clicked on that post thinking that surely whoever was writing the OP would have it explained to her, in no uncertain terms why the shooting of Michael Brown (and so many other young black men and boys) has resulted in the reaction that it has.

What actually happened was an avalanche of white privilege and ignorance.

I'm disappointed, sad and angry. But at least now I know.

And yes. Its a thread about a thread. But it needed saying and saying loud.

I should add that there were of course some posters, white and black who were not being racist and offensive. Sadly they seemed to be in a clear minority.

I am sure that if he was white he would either be alive or the cop would have been charged.

Unforch this is just a continuation of white violence towards black people. At least the KKK aren't state sponsored, unlike the death penalty system and the police. An unarmed child has been murdered by the state. Damn right people are angry. And no, it wouldn't have happened if he were white.

Why?

Because they know, deep down, that they too are afraid of black men - and they know that that is racist and wrong but instead of seeing that and dealing with it, they try to excuse the behaviour of a police officer who thinks like them and the tragic consequences.
