To think this Cath kidston shop assistant was a bit rude?!

So I went into Cath kidston today. There were big signs saying sign up to our email list and get stamps towards free socks. Now, I'm not desperate for Cath kidston socks but I found a couple of things to buy and when I went to the cash desk, I said can I have the stamps towards the free socks. The young chap on the till, turned to his colleague and asked and she said snootily, "no, you have to spend £30 to sign up for the mailing list, but you can still buy these things!" I replied, " Of course I know I can buy them, but actually, I don't think I'll bother." Wtf. The things I'd chosen added up to £24. I think I'm on the bloody mailing list anyway. So her snooty attitude lost my business today.

Sounds like she explained the facts to you to be honest. Not sure why you walked out?!

Lampy · 24/11/2014 21:06

It sounds like she just explained the facts of the email sign up. So she was doing her job Confused I can't see why you walked out!

Fudgeface123 · 24/11/2014 21:06

So she should bend the rules just for you? Why?

Lampy · 24/11/2014 21:07

oops...sorry. Thought i'd lost the first one Grin

LadyLuck10 · 24/11/2014 21:08

Sounds like you think you are above the rules. I'm sure they aren't too bothered that they've 'lost your business'Hmm

juicysatsuma · 24/11/2014 21:09

Are you sure she worked there?

TallulahTwinkletoes · 24/11/2014 21:09

Odd that she said 'but you can still buy these things' as it's plain as day but I think I've missed your point with the rest...

LynetteScavo · 24/11/2014 21:12

Eh? Not sure why you flounced.

She didn't explain politely, but you can't walk off every time someone's rude or you'd never get through life.

calmexterior · 24/11/2014 21:13

Sounds rude to me. And unfriendly...and isn't that a weird rule anyway?

farendofafart · 24/11/2014 21:13

If she said it snootily, I can imagine that coming across rudely OP. It's all in the tone of voice and facial expression. YANBU

LynetteScavo · 24/11/2014 21:16

If she had any sense she'd have explained you needed to sped over £30 for the stamps, and as it was only £6 more suggested something lovely costing just over £6.

UsedtobeFeckless · 24/11/2014 21:17

Cath Kidson stuff is foul over-priced tat anyway ... Lucky escape!

OwlWearingSunglasses · 24/11/2014 21:19

Spend £30 to go on a mailing list? Eh?

Yes, it was in the tone. I guess you had to be there as she came across as really rude. It was odd in there today. I walked across the shop and was asked twice if they could help me. I said I was just browsing. I don't think that shop is doing particularly well. It's always empty when I go in. I didn't notice anything on the signs to say I had to spend £30. It was the abrupt manner and the fact she said I could still buy them, just riled me. I think a lot of their stuff isn't that nice at the moment. All the stuff with the clocks design.

There are far better places to spend your ££ on.

Cath Kidston is overpriced and the quality is awful.

Marmiteandjamislush · 24/11/2014 22:11

Are you going to have some bread and butter with that chip op?

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 24/11/2014 22:12

It's not pleasant to be on the receiving end of a snotty attitude so yanbu.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 24/11/2014 22:14

"But you can still buy these things"

Well thanks very much!

OF COURSE YANBU.

Only on MN would you be called unreasonable!

crocodilesarevicious · 24/11/2014 22:16

I know what you mean.

I asked a benefit sales assistant if they had something once and she said no. Just no - but the LOOK she gave me and the tone - you had to be there, but it was disgustingly rude! I was so cross!

TallulahTwinkletoes · 24/11/2014 22:16

Well if she was a snooty cow I'm glad you walked out. Hopefully, it'll give her food for thought.

I have no time for rude/snooty people in customer services. It takes a particular person to work in the role and they aren't it. Hmm

drbonnieblossman · 24/11/2014 22:21

You overreacted a little. You should have just left it at "yea, I do realise that!"

Cath Kidston used to, many years ago, be a lovely shop - only a few branches and some pretty bits. Now it's so commercialised its a bit very naff.

kawliga · 24/11/2014 23:37

She was rude. You were only a few quid short of the minimum so she should have sneakily cheerfully tried to sell you some overpriced tat something nice extra to bring you up to £30? I think her job is to try and part gullible customers from their money, not to try and humiliate them!

I'm a sucker for being offered extra shit at the tills by a friendly smiley salesperson. I nearly always buy. Instead of trying to get someone onto her mailing list she thought it was more important to be snobbish. YANBU.
