Showering after sports

AIBU to expect an 11yr old (yr7) boy to use the gym showers after a martial arts class if he's going out for a meal immediately afterwards? He's supervised by a parent, not left alone, so there's no suggestion of inappropriate behaviour or bullying in the changing rooms.

Or, is it ok to accept his reasoning that he "hasn't got sweaty enough" to need a shower?

yes, my 11 year probably wouldn't get that sweaty so I wouldn't stress over it

ilovepowerhoop · 22/11/2014 18:51

wouldnt bother me if they didnt shower.

AuntieStella · 22/11/2014 18:51

It rather depends on whether he smells or not.

My DC didn't seem to smell (even if quite sweaty) until puberty had definitely set in.

whois · 22/11/2014 19:27

Yeah, depends on how sweaty he got and if he smelt.

Yes agree with pp. If not smelly, no he shouldn't necessarily have a shower until he goes home.

Tobyjugg · 22/11/2014 19:40

I was once in a school gym class where we all got detention because none of us showered after a gym lesson. We were 12. Good luck getting 11 year olds to shower.

magpiegin · 22/11/2014 19:44

Just let him put another layer of Lynx on!

Fluffyears · 23/11/2014 13:24

Let him be unless he reeks. I was recently in the supermarket and could smell really strong BO,coming from a guy 20 feet away wearing cycling/running gear. It was vile and in his case he definitely should have showered before venturing out. Boak!

BackforGood · 23/11/2014 13:29

Agree with everyone else.
YABU to assume all 11 yr old boys need to.
Many have not hit puberty at that age and just wouln't be sweaty.
Even if they have, it just might not have been an active seeion. I don't know, I wasn't there.

Picturesinthefirelight · 23/11/2014 13:30

When ds did taekwondo he wouldn't have got sweaty. And class attendees didn't have access to the showers in the leisure centre anyway.

sanfairyanne · 23/11/2014 13:34

nah really not necessary

Scabetty · 23/11/2014 14:18

Ds 12 yo has hit puberty and would smell but would cover it up with Lynx or some other toxic spray rather than shower. I am assured once he discovers girls it will change. Still waiting though,

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/11/2014 14:23

I was slightly amazed when DS1 started secondary school and I found they didn't need a towel after games because none of them showered. It's just not compulsory anymore, so none of them choose to. No matter how muddy. Grin

Long gone are the days when you had to shower then line up in your towel to prove it and get your name ticked off by the games teacher. And thank god! It was always the worst part of the school week for me.

justaweeone · 23/11/2014 14:29

Lynx=shower in a can

Ragwort · 23/11/2014 14:31

Agree with everyone else Grin - 11 year old boys are unlikely to get that sweaty after a martial arts class.

I never showered after I went to aerobic classes, I never sweated much Blush.

Scabetty · 23/11/2014 14:33

Pmsl at 'shower in a can' - Ds really thinks it is an acceptable alternative.
