Spelling and typing

I realise that this must be the most nitpicky of topics, but there appear to be more than a few typos around. I know I probably have a few myself but there are some errors that seem to be about spelling. The wrong spelling of 'hear' (here), 'son' - I'm sure the word was supposed to be 'sun'. Of course, we all dash these things off urgently and I don't bother about the swearing, but somehow bad spelling irks me. Does it you?

People are good at different things. That's what makes the human race awesome.

And it's very easy to get distracted by TV/children/cake/kittens and type quickly a vaguely. I've done it many times and I can be quite pedantic about that kind of thing.

And don't forget that auto-correct frequently makes a mockery of people's posts.

I blame iPads ... Mine has a mind of it's own! I can easily tell the difference between the posts I've written on my iPad and those I've written on my laptop.

If you haven't used an ipad then I don't blame you for thinking it can't just be a typo. I used to think that. I know better now.

I touch type very quickly and I'm used to it being accurate so I just hit post. Often I forget, when I'm on the iPad, to check what it has decided it thinks I'd like to say!

No, it doesn't bother me.

Sometimes people are not so good at spelling and grammar, perhaps English isn't their native tongue (like me) or perhaps they have dyslexia. Sometimes we just make simple mistakes due to typing quickly and words sounding the same but being spelt differently. I know the difference between there/their/they're but there have been times where I have written the wrong one. I often read through my posts several times before posting and I don't always spot the mistakes to correct them. Also Auto-correct happens and browsers and apps don't always have an integrated spell checker to spot the mistakes for us.

As long as a post is readable and I understand what the person is saying then spelling does not really matter. If someone has written a paragraph about their child and then types "sun" instead of "son" I'm not going to assume they have actually been taking about the star at the centre of the solar system.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but sometimes my brain moves too fast for my fingers to keep up so occasionally I miss out a letter or even an entire word in a sentence! Or if I have written "their" twice already in a reply I might automatically type it again instead of "they're" or "there".

Does not bother me when it's a fast moving conversation.
I'm dyslexic.
I also use MN on my phone, auto correct plays havoc with my messages.
I'm grateful to anyone who will overlook my spelling issues and not pick me up for being crap.

I get annoyed by bad spelling on say job application forms, if you have several days to write a formal document do get someone else to proof read it or spell check it...

What I can't understand is if they post on MN, then presumably they read MN threads also. Why can't they see that their spelling is wrong if they read so much that is correct? They must realise that what they are reading and what they write are different

I maintain my ability to spell has significantly deteriorated since I left school. I.e the time spellcheck and predictive text started to be the norm.

I can spell. I choose not to here depending on the word, obvs, as I can choose what to do being an adult with my own brain.

Can see both sides. Am crap at typing, even worse on my phone, but using the wrong to/too/two, or their/they're/there REALLY annoys me. But I try and remember that this is an internet forum not a workplace, so not worth getting worked up about.
